The Wellness Center Coach is responsible for facilitating member retention through relationship building and active engagement with members in the Wellness Center. This position implements Wellness Orientations, individualized exercise programs, and small group training, ensuring a positive, supportive, and safe environment for all members.

There are immediate openings at the Lockport YMCA and the Independent Health YMCA.

GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:
Will be scheduled a minimum of 12 hours per week. Afternoon and evening shifts are available. Must be available to work on weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Member Engagement and Support: Interact with and engage every member in the Wellness Center, providing supervision, encouragement, and assistance to ensure a positive workout experience.

Exercise Program Implementation: Develop and implement personalized exercise programs for individuals and small groups based on fitness levels, goals, and health considerations.

Equipment Instruction and Monitoring: Instruct members on the proper use of workout equipment, ensuring correct technique and safety. Monitor members to prevent injury and offer guidance on form and technique.

Safety and Emergency Response: Maintain a safe workout environment, responding promptly and effectively to emergency situations to ensure member well-being.

Policy Enforcement and Compliance: Enforce YMCA policies and rules, ensuring members comply with Wellness Center regulations to maintain a respectful and safe environment.

Record Keeping and Follow-Up: Maintain organized records for all personal training sessions, and follow up with members to track progress, provide motivation, and ensure goals are being met.

Mission and Program Communication: Effectively communicate the YMCA’s mission, objectives, and available programs to members and guests, fostering a supportive and community-focused environment.

Cleanliness and Hygiene: Follow department protocols for cleaning and disinfecting commonly used surfaces. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the Wellness Center and equipment.

Event Participation: Participate in the development, promotion, and implementation of health and well-being events such as Healthy Kids Day, membership campaigns, and wellness challenges.

Professional Development: Maintain required certifications and participate in ongoing professional development to enhance personal and team growth.

Team Collaboration: Attend department staff meetings and actively participate in training sessions to continuously improve program delivery and member engagement.

Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Certifications: Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI), or Foundations of Strength and Conditioning at the Y Certification within one year of employment.

Specialized Certification: National Certification (ACSM, ACE, NETA, ISSA, AFAA or NASM) in Personal Training is preferred.

Experience: One year of practical experience in fitness instruction, personal training, athletic coaching, or physical therapy.

Communication Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and provide individualized support.
