About this Opportunity

We are seeking passionate and dedicated Wellbeing Navigator Peers to join our newly established Bushfire Surge Response Team, delivering Mental Health and Wellbeing Local services across the Mitchell and Murrindindi Shires. These positions are offered on a part-time basis, with the possibility of full-time hours for suitable candidates. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a service where lived experience is not only valued but actively leads the way mental health and wellbeing supports are delivered. Employed by Wellways Australia, you will work alongside participants, carers, families, and community members to provide meaningful peer support and service navigation that promotes hope, connection, and recovery.

Drawing on your own lived experience and guided by the Intentional Peer Support (IPS) Framework, you will walk alongside people experiencing mental health and/or alcohol and other drug challenges as they navigate the supports they need. The role involves providing peer support through outreach, in-reach, phone, and telehealth channels, assisting participants to access services aligned with their goals and strengths, and supporting collaborative engagement with clinical and community supports.

As a key point of contact, you will help create a welcoming and inclusive environment while contributing to a workplace culture that centres lived experience, mutuality, respect, self-determination, and the ongoing growth of the lived experience workforce.

You will need:

  • Personal experience of distress, trauma, mental illness and/or substance use and the recovery journey
  • Minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or a relevant field
  • Current valid Driver’s License and the ability to undertake travel for the role
  • Current Working with Children Check and NDIS Workers Screening Check
  • Right to Work within Australia, and an International Police Check ( If required)
  • Satisfactory National Police Records Check (valid within the last 12 months)
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate

We work with a diverse range of people, their families and carers to identify needs and goals to build good lives in the community This includes creating a home, getting a job and building meaningful relationships.
