Job Description

PURPOSE

The Quality Engineer (Welding) is responsible for the execution / implementation of weld quality control plans, destructive and non-destructive test plan and procedure, and other welding quality related task to ensure conformance to specified Quality requirement and welding codes and standards. His/her tasks include designing, developing, or evaluating welding procedure specifications (WPS); creating and implementing process or procedures for welding execution and inspections; facilitating Welder Qualification test; conducting welding inspections (pre-welding, during welding and post welding); and reviewing and verifying NDT results and reports.

He/she is also responsible for maintaining and improving welding inspection process and controls to achieve and continuously improve quality of constructed vessels.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Essential

• Graduate of Engineering course, preferably Mechanical Engineer or Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
• Minimum of 3 years experience in quality control, inspection, auditing and testing in a shipbuilding or similar industries
• Strong working knowledge on technical drawing (structural, piping, schematic) interpretations
• Well versed on welding inspection and NDT methods.
• Well versed on various welding processes, Welding Procedure Qualification Test and Welder Qualification Test
• Working knowledge in AutoCAD
• Strong data gathering and analysis skills
• Ability to interface effectively with all levels of organization and external customers
• Above average skills on Microsoft Office Application (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

Desirable

• Good background on shipbuilding processes and operations, preferably Aluminium shipbuilding
• Experience in Class Survey and statutory requirements for new shipbuilding is an advantage
• Preferably with relevant certification/qualification on Welding and NDT
• Internal Auditor experience in an ISO 9001 certified company
