Job Description

The Welder/Fabrication/Maintenance Worker is responsible for fabricating and welding unique parts and assemblies required in all areas of the scrapyard.

  • Safety in the welding and fabrication division must be observed and practiced at all times. Additional PPE’s such as welding hoods, welding gloves, leather clothing, and full face shields (along with safety glasses) are required.
  • The use of specialty welding equipment is required in this division and all manufacture safety procedures must be adhered to at all times.
  • All specialty equipment must be checked for damage and repaired if damage exists before each use.
  • The Welder and Fabrication Worker is responsible for fabricating and welding specialized assemblies to replace parts that have been worn past their usable life.
  • Repair and fabricate various size trailers used to haul scrap metal material from commercial and industrial accounts.
  • Repair various size metal containers, used by roll off trucks to haul scrap metal from commercial and industrial accounts.
  • Assist on shredder maintenance and repairs when directed.
  • Clean and maintain the welding area, using whatever resources are necessary, to remove objects, debris and hazards from the work area.
  • Secure all high pressure cylinders.
  • Practice safe welding and torching processes at all times.
  • Ensure a clean, safe and orderly workplace; clean and prepare sites by removing debris and possible hazards.
  • Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
  • Follow instructions from Shredder & Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Adhere to operating and health and safety protocols.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Must be safety minded. Must understand and abide by all safety rules and regulations.
  • Must have working knowledge of safe welding and torching practices.
  • Must be organized and keep a clean and safe work area.
  • Minimum of 3 years welding experience.
  • Ability to use variety of hand tools required for fabrication, welding and repairs.
  • Must work independently as well as within a team environment.
  • Welder and fabrication Worker must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work overhead, climb ladders, kneel, and stand for long periods.
  • Ability and desire to work in all weather conditions including rain, snow, cold and heat.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
