PURPOSE AND SCOPE
This position is responsible for acquiring skill certifications to support the mission of the Skills Application Pay Program, which is to create and reward a cross-trained workforce in order to support manufacturing’s structure and the ongoing effort to improve efficiencies. At this basic level, the employee will acquire the set number of skills that have been identified based on the number of skill families that have been identified.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
The incumbent may be responsible for other specific and essential duties and responsibilities with respect to each of the skills set regardless of certification status.
Meet the set daily production rate for the department.
Read and complete necessary forms and documentation including work orders, inspection sheets and log sheets.
Properly set up, assembly and/or weld all current models and standard options in compliance with product specifications to ensure customer satisfaction.
Sets up component parts in a secure position using bolts, clamps or tack welds.
Removes weld spatter from product as required.
This position is required to follow established safety procedures in and around the production area, to comprehend and conform to established quality guidelines, and to demonstrate good housekeeping skills in the work area and on the production floor.
Applies paint to dock levelers and parts. This position may also be responsible for cleaning, maintaining and operating paint booths, pumps and other related equipment.
Responsible for monitoring and/or supplying correct parts to production floor/line locations and maintain part location and quantity accuracy within the warehouse.
Operate small hand tools such as power screwdrivers, overhead crane, banding and testing equipment, air tools and hammers in a safe, prescribed manner.
Follow established quality, safety and production procedures.
Locate and retrieve appropriate production materials as required.
Participate in Lean Manufacturing events including Kaizen events, 5S activities and other training as required.
Meet set daily production requirements by assembling, welding and/or painting components to engineering specifications with the highest level of quality and timeliness.
In order to maintain certifications, the employee must work a minimum of 2 weeks in each of the skills that have been acquired.
Monitor inventory levels and maintain appropriate quantities as set according to Kanban system.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and at least three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and utilize a tape measure.
Ability to complete paperwork as required.
Ability to read and understand prints in relation to part size and dimensions and specifications.
Ability to utilize computer system needed to identify component location
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.
