Examples of duties

This position supports the Bucks County Maintenance Office by completing welding tasks that help maintain highways, bridges, and essential equipment. The role focuses on ensuring that metal components are repaired, fabricated, and prepared correctly for safe and effective use. As a Welder, you will perform the following duties:


  • Metal Work Preparation: Preheat, clean, cut, and fit materials for welding
  • Equipment Repair: Make repairs to vehicle bodies, engine parts, trailers, and maintenance machinery
  • Winter Equipment Service: Repair plow frames, blades, spreaders, and related seasonal equipment
  • Part Fabrication: Create replacement or modified parts using oxy-acetylene, electric arc, heli-arc, or other similar welding tools
  • Special Materials Welding: Weld and cut stainless steel, aluminum, and other specialized materials
  • General Support Tasks: Perform minor equipment repairs and operate tools or vehicles such as forklifts or pickup trucks

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
  • Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,506.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
  • Completion of a three-year, high school Vo-Tech training program in welding and eighteen months of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
  • Completion of an approved welder apprentice program; or
  • A welding certificate D1.1 from the American Welding Society; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
