Job Description

The Welder is responsible for fabricating, welding, and assembling aluminum and stainless-steel components used in the production of traffic signal control cabinets, ITS enclosures, and related traffic infrastructure products. This position performs high-quality MIG and TIG welding while ensuring all products meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements. The Welder works closely with fabrication, machining, assembly, engineering, and quality teams to support efficient manufacturing operations in a fast-paced production environment.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG and TIG welding on aluminum and stainless-steel components used in traffic control cabinets, electrical enclosures, and fabricated assemblies.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, and specifications to determine welding requirements and assembly methods.
  • Fabricate welded assemblies according to engineering tolerances and manufacturing specifications.
  • Set up, adjust, calibrate, and safely operate MIG and TIG welding equipment.
  • Prepare materials by cutting, grinding, fitting, and cleaning components prior to welding.
  • Inspect welded assemblies for dimensional accuracy, appearance, penetration, and structural integrity.
  • Utilize measuring devices including tape measures, calipers, squares, and other precision inspection tools.
  • Perform grinding, finishing, deburring, and polishing of welds as required.
  • Identify and report material defects, drawing discrepancies, equipment issues, or quality concerns.
  • Work with Engineering and Quality departments to resolve fabrication issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain production schedules while meeting quality and safety standards.
  • Follow all AWS welding procedures, company work instructions, and manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain welding equipment and perform routine preventive maintenance.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, continuous improvement, and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Crosstrain and assist other manufacturing departments as business needs require.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all OSHA safety regulations and company safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of MIG and TIG welding experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience welding aluminum and stainless-steel sheet metal preferred.
  • American Welding Society (AWS) Certification preferred.
  • Successful completion of a practical welding test is required during the interview process.
  • Experience manufacturing electrical enclosures, control cabinets, or similar fabricated products is preferred.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequently use hands and arms to handle tools, welding equipment, and materials.
  • Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach.
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding helmet, gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, steel-toed footwear, and protective clothing.
  • Possess close vision, depth perception, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
