Job Description

Responsible for fusing metal parts together to construct and repair ships, using various welding techniques and following strict safety protocols. This involves interpreting blueprints, preparing materials, performing welding operations, and ensuring the quality and integrity of the welds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welding: Joining metal components of ships using various welding processes such as stick welding (SMAW), MIG, and TIG welding.
  • Material Preparation: Cutting, fitting, and preparing metal parts for welding, including grinding, beveling, and aligning.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Reading and understanding technical drawings and blueprints to determine welding requirements and specifications.
  • Quality Control: Inspecting welds for defects, ensuring proper penetration, and adherence to quality standards.
  • Safety Compliance: Following all safety regulations and procedures related to welding, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling of welding equipment.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintaining and ensuring the proper functioning of welding equipment.
  • Documentation: Maintaining records of welding activities and inspections.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Material Knowledge: Understanding of different metals and their properties relevant to welding.
  • Safety Awareness: Thorough knowledge of welding safety procedures and regulations.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to work in various positions and environments, including confined spaces and heights.
