Job Description

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
We’re looking for a skilled Welder to support underground operations by performing structural repairs, fabrication, and critical downtime fixes on a hard rock Main Beam TBM and its support systems. This is a field-based role that requires quick thinking, strong technical skill, and the ability to work in tight spaces under demanding conditions. You’ll work directly with mechanics, electricians, and foremen to keep equipment safe, functional, and production-ready.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks on TBM components, muck conveyors, support equipment, and infrastructure
  • Respond to unplanned mechanical failures and perform in-field structural repairs to minimize downtime
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and field modification instructions
  • Weld various materials including carbon steel, stainless, and hardened components under underground conditions
  • Support TBM launches, ring rebuilds, machine modifications, and tail shield maintenance
  • Assist with general maintenance and assembly/disassembly tasks as needed
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and ensure all work meets company quality and safety standards

Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in structural or industrial welding - underground or heavy civil construction preferred
  • Proficient in MIG, Stick, and cutting torch applications (GTAW/TIG a plus)
  • Ability to work in confined underground spaces, on rotating shifts, and in challenging physical environments
  • Familiarity with fabrication, rigging, and heavy equipment repair
  • AWS or equivalent certification is a plus

About The Boring Company

To solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic, roads must go 3D, which means either flying cars or tunnels. Unlike flying cars, tunnels are weatherproof, out of sight and won't fall on your head. A large network of tunnels many levels deep would fix congestion in any city, no matter how large it grew (just keep adding levels). The key to making this work is increasing tunneling speed and dropping costs by a factor of 10 or more – this is the goal of The Boring Company. Fast to dig, low cost tunnels would also make Hyperloop adoption viable and enable rapid transit across densely populated regions, enabling travel from New York to Washington DC in less than 30 minutes.
