Scope of Position
This highly skilled and experienced welder, as part of the Production team, will be responsible for performing advanced welding and fabrication activities for the manufacture of boilers, pressure vessels, and boiler room equipment. The Welder II demonstrates proficiency in multiple welding processes, works independently with minimal supervision, and serves as a resource for less experienced welders by providing guidance, technical support, and on-the-job training.
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility.
This position reports to the Production Supervisor. This role is onsite and based in Hutchinson, KS.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform advanced welding and fabrication of carbon steel components in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, welding procedures, and quality standards.
- Weld pressure-retaining and structural components utilizing approved welding procedures and techniques.
- Set up and operate welding equipment, grinders, positioners, and other fabrication tools.
- Read, interpret, and execute work based on blueprints, weld symbols, fabrication drawings, and work instructions.
- Perform fit-up verification and ensure weld preparations meet quality and code requirements.
- Inspect completed welds for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
- Work across multiple welding processes as required, including SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), FCAW (Flux Core), and other qualified processes.
- Assist with troubleshooting welding issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Support production goals by completing work within established quality and productivity standards.
- Assist with training and mentoring Welder 1 employees and new team members.
- Maintain welding certifications and obtain additional qualifications as required.
- Train and mentor entry-level welders on welding techniques, safety practices, equipment operation, and quality expectations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, Quality Control requirements, and personal protective equipment requirements.

- Assume responsibility for other projects and duties as assigned by Production Supervisor or Company management.

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 3+ years of welding experience in manufacturing, fabrication, pressure vessel, or industrial environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in MIG (GMAW) and Stick (SMAW) welding processes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and welding procedures.
- Ability to accurately use tape measures, levels, squares, and other measuring devices.
- Experience performing weld fit-up, joint preparation, and fabrication activities.
- Ability to meet established quality and production standards with minimal supervision.
- Strong verbal communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work effectively with peers, supervisors, Quality Control personnel, and production teams.
- Understanding of welding safety practices and manufacturing quality requirements.
- Understanding of and adherence to applicable laws, codes, policies, regulations, and safety practices and procedures, as applicable.
- Ability to successfully pass welding qualification tests as required.
- Must successfully establish employment eligibility and satisfactorily complete background checks, including drug screening, and required pre-employment testing as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an ASME Code manufacturing environment.
- Current qualifications in FCAW (Duo-Shield), GTAW (TIG), and/or SAW (Submerged Arc Welding).
- Experience welding pressure vessels, boilers, tanks, heat exchangers, or similar fabricated equipment.
- Knowledge of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder qualification requirements.
- AWS certification or equivalent industry-recognized welding credentials.
- Previous experience training, mentoring, or leading other welders.
- Technical or vocational education in Welding Technology or a related field.
- Experience using overhead cranes, positioners, and other fabrication equipment.

Working Conditions:
While performing the job duties, you will be working on-site in a manufacturing facility. You will be required to work at the Company’s location in Hutchinson, KS. Your scheduled work hours will be communicated to you by your manager.
Physical Requirements Specific physical abilities required for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, climb, reach, and twist regularly throughout the workday.
- Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms.
- Ability to use both hands and arms to operate welding equipment, grinders, and hand tools.
- Ability to perform precision welding and fabrication work for extended periods.
- Ability to read drawings, weld symbols, measuring devices, and work instructions accurately.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including welding helmets, gloves, flame-resistant clothing, safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
- Ability to work in environments with exposure to heat, sparks, welding fumes, noise, and moving equipment.
- Ability to maintain regular, dependable, and reliable attendance.
