Scope of Position
This skilled and quality-focused individual, as part of the Production team, will be responsible for fabricating components used in the manufacture of boilers and boiler room equipment. The Welder performs welding operations in accordance with engineering specifications, quality standards, and applicable welding procedures while supporting continuous improvement, safety, and operational excellence.
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility.
This position reports to the Production Supervisor. This role is onsite and based in Hutchinson, KS.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform welding of carbon steel plate and components in accordance with approved welding procedures and production requirements.
- Grind, clean, and prepare surfaces before and after welding operations as required.
- Operate MIG welders, stick welders, grinders, and other fabrication tools and equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, work instructions, and production drawings.
- Produce welds that meet company quality standards and applicable code requirements.
- Follow established Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Quality Control procedures.
- Inspect completed work and identify potential quality issues before advancing products to the next stage of production.
- Maintain knowledge of welding processes, fabrication techniques, and departmental procedures.
- Complete assigned tasks within established production standards and timelines.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by developing welding skills and obtaining additional welding qualifications as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety rules, procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements.

- Assume responsibility for other duties and special projects as assigned by the Production Supervisor or Company management.
- Travel Requirements: None anticipated.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience performing MIG and Stick (SMAW) welding in a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings.
- Ability to read and accurately use tape measures and other measuring devices.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Ability to work effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and other departments.
- Ability to perform work independently with minimal supervision.
- Understanding of basic fabrication and welding safety practices.
- Ability to meet established productivity and quality standards.
- Understanding of and adherence to company policies, safety procedures, and quality requirements.
- Must successfully establish employment eligibility and satisfactorily complete applicable background checks, including drug screening and pre-employment testing as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an ASME Code manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in Duo-Shield (FCAW), TIG (GTAW), and/or Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) processes.
- Current welding certifications or the ability to obtain additional welding qualifications.
- Experience welding pressure vessels, boilers, or other heavy fabricated equipment.
- Familiarity with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), weld inspection requirements, and code-related tolerances.
- Technical or vocational training in welding, fabrication, or a related field.
- Multi-process welding experience and demonstrated ability to work across a variety of fabrication applications.

Working Conditions:
While performing the job duties, you will be working on-site in a manufacturing facility. You will be required to work at the Company’s location in Hutchinson, KS. Your scheduled work hours will be communicated to you by your manager.
Physical Requirements Specific physical abilities required for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25.
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, climb, reach, and twist regularly throughout the workday.
- Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms.
- Ability to use both hands and arms to operate welding equipment, grinders, and hand tools.
- Ability to perform precision welding and fabrication activities in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read drawings, welding symbols, measuring devices, and work instructions accurately.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including welding helmets, gloves, flame-resistant clothing, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear.
- Ability to work in environments with exposure to heat, sparks, welding fumes, noise, and moving equipment.
- Ability to maintain regular, dependable, and reliable attendance.
