Leidos is seeking a Senior Weld Engineer to serve as the primary welding engineering authority supporting Electron Beam Welding (EBW) operations within the Mechanical Manufacturing Facility (MMF). This role provides advanced technical leadership across complex defense programs through weld process development, qualification, production support, and proposal contribution. The position requires strong expertise in high-energy density welding (EBW) as well as manual GTAW and GMAW processes used in support of defense hardware manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary weld engineering authority for MMF EBW operations.
Develop, qualify, and optimize welding procedures for EBW and manual GTAW/GMAW processes.
Author and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and associated documentation.
Lead EBW parameter development, validation, and troubleshooting including beam tuning and penetration profile control.
Provide technical oversight and support for manual TIG and MIG welding operations supporting production hardware.
Evaluate metallurgical response including HAZ behavior, defect mechanisms, distortion, and structural integrity.
Lead weld-related root cause investigations and corrective actions.
Coordinate external testing laboratories, metallurgical evaluations, and specialty process vendors.
Partner with Quality and NDT Departments to ensure weld compliance with applicable codes, contractual requirements, and inspection standards.
Support EBW equipment through light troubleshooting, operations, fixturing/tooling concepts, and programming.
Support proposal development through weld scope definition, risk identification, and labor estimation.
Maintain configuration control and technical integrity of weld documentation within MES and engineering systems.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Welding Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
8–12 years of relevant welding engineering experience.
Demonstrated experience developing and qualifying welding procedures.
Strong working knowledge of:
- Electron Beam Welding (EBW)
-GTAW and GMAW
Metallurgical behavior in welded structures
Weld defect mechanisms and mitigation
NDT methods and weld inspection standards
AWS, ASME, or other applicable welding codes
Experience in structural and aerospace alloys.
Ability to independently resolve complex technical problems.
Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess or meet the eligibility to obtain (and be able to maintain) a Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Aerospace or defense manufacturing experience.
Certified Welding Engineer (CWE).
Experience contributing to technical proposals.
Experience with Solumina MES and Solidworks CAD systems.

Pay Range $107,900.00 - $195,050.00
