What this role is all about:

The Wealth Protection Specialist provides professional life insurance planning services, advice, and support to clients with personal and business insurance needs. This role works proactively with the Advisory Sales team to identify and cultivate insurance referral opportunities across branch, wealth, business, and commercial channels. The Wealth Protection Specialist supports the growth of existing and new member relationships by delivering appropriate insurance solutions, promoting holistic financial protection strategies, and supporting the broader credit union product and service offering. The role ensures advice is delivered in accordance with regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and best practices, while contributing to a high‑quality member experience.

What you’ll do:

Member Advisory & Insurance Planning

  • Consults with members on personal and business insurance needs by analyzing income, assets, liabilities, and wealth transfer objectives in alignment with member goals.
  • Determines insurance needs, identifies appropriate solutions, and provides recommendations for member consideration.
  • Advises clients on a broad range of insurance products and solutions, including Universal Life, Term Life, Whole Life, Critical Illness, longTerm Care, Disability, Key Person insurance, BuySell Agreements, and other wealth transfer strategies.
  • Conducts followup meetings to reassess member circumstances and recommend adjustments where needs have changed.

Sales Support & Business Development

  • Proactively partners with Advisory Sales, branch, small business, and commercial teams to identify referral opportunities and support insurance needs analyses.
  • Promotes growth of insurance coverage for existing and new members while crossreferring to other credit union products and services as appropriate.
  • Pursues business development opportunities in alignment with ethical standards and all regulatory and licensing requirements.
  • Generates leads and referral opportunities through professional networking, community involvement, and other approved engagement activities.

Application Processing & Relationship Management

  • Processes life insurance applications and coordinates all required followup discussions and documentation.
  • Ensures timely and accurate completion of insurance applications and ongoing communication with members throughout the process.
  • Maintains strong branch and advisor relationships to ensure seamless member experiences across banking and wealth services.

Compliance & Professional Standards

  • Conducts all activities in compliance with Insurance Council of British Columbia requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Ensures member recommendations, documentation, and communications meet internal policies and external regulatory obligations.

Internal Expertise & Knowledge Sharing

  • Acts as a technical resource to internal teams by providing information sessions, demonstrations, and guidance on life insurance products, features, benefits, and processes.
  • Supports internal understanding of insurance solutions by responding to questions and providing followup where required to ensure clarity and alignment.
  • Contributes to maintaining consistent knowledge and best practices across Advisory and Wealth & Planning teams.

What you’ll bring:

  • Licensed and in good standing with the Insurance Council of British Columbia.
  • 4–6 years of directly related experience providing life insurance advice and protection planning within a financial services environment.
  • Expert knowledge of personal insurance products and concepts, including life, disability, critical illness, wealth protection strategies, and related individual/corporate taxation considerations.
  • Solid understanding of investment and banking products and services to support holistic, memberfocused advice.
  • A commitment to innovation driven by curiosity, with a proactive approach to exploring new ideas
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation or other relevant financial planning credentials are considered an asset.
  • Equivalent combination of the above may be appropriate

  • Compensation: This role offers a fully commission-based compensation plan, designed to reward results and entrepreneurial drive. Successful candidates have the opportunity to earn uncapped income based on sales generated and applicable commission rates. An interim base salary may be offered to allow time for transition to the new role.
