We are now accepting applications for a Full-Time, Non-Permanent Truck Driver 1, to work for our Laundry department. This position is responsible for the pickup and delivery of all laundry at the Washington Veterans Home (WVH) and Orting facilities (WSH). Required to make deliveries to both campuses to various pre-designated locations.

Please Note: The hours of work are Monday- Friday from 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The end date is projected as October 1st, 2027. This position is not eligible for telework.

*This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.

Examples of duties

Some of what you'll do:

  • Pickup and deliver all laundry carts and racks at Washington Veterans Home and Orting.
  • Operates vehicles to provide pickup and delivery services to various locations with Washington Veterans Home and Orting facilities services.
  • Loads and unloads vehicles ensuring weight is properly distributed and secured.
  • Operates all vehicles in a safe and lawful manner.
  • Adapts and responds to last minute schedule changes and priorities.
  • Picks up and delivers various medical equipment between these locations and to various buildings on each campus.
  • Refuels vehicles and performs vehicle inspections.
  • Immediately reports mechanical deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Conducts pre and post trip vehicle inspections.
  • Maintains vehicles in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Ensures vehicle interior and exterior are kept clean and fills gas tank in Vehicles after each run.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Must have and maintain a Washington Driver’s License.
  • Must be proficient in the English language.

Preferred/Desired:

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Possession of class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver’s license with the ability to obtain intermediate or equivalent endorsement.
  • Have excellent communication skills written and verbal.
  • Ability to maintain safety and / or infection control as related to medical assistance.
  • Ability to lead and work directly with residents.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules and written / oral instructions.
  • Ability to prepare messages and simple reports.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Able to read and understand written instructions, directions, and procedures.
  • Ability to make simple arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to follow safety policies and procedures.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies. Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday.
  • Must maintain regular and reliable attendance and be willing to work as needed.
  • Must successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service, and other required training.
  • Must become familiar and comply with all DVA policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
  • Must sign the confidentiality statement for all employees.
  • Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
  • Candidates who are offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.
