Within CTR, CTRCS – Client Services unit of the Loan and Financing Department is devoted to providing “front-end” client services and related operations to business and external clients and is organized along business lines serving the regions and global practices. The Services within the area of CTRCS responsibilities fall under three categories: regional coordination, country focal point assistance, and project-level fiduciary and portfolio management.

CTRCS is currently seeking a highly motivated, self-driven WBG Explorers Program Candidate, who has a passion for development work and is willing to join one of its regional centers.

Expected contributions from WBG Explorers Program Candidate

CTRCS Country Teams plays an important role supporting disbursement-related activities during the project cycle, providing front-end client services to internal and external stakeholders, and working as an integral part of WBG financed operations. The selected candidate will be expected to contribute meaningfully to data analysis, reporting automation, technology adoption initiatives as well as supporting CTRCS country teams carry out their core mandate. As a member of CTRCS, the candidate will be expected to juggle a variety of broad responsibilities, including brainstorming solutions, identifying operational efficiencies through optimization, and providing inputs to disbursement systems and testing the system designs and features.

The selected candidate will report to the Regional Team Leader based in on of CTRCS’ regional center.

Duties and Responsibilities

Transaction Support and Client Services

• Support CTRCS country team’s during disbursement transaction processing, including logging withdrawal applications, setting up master data, and updating data for category overdraws, ceilings, effectiveness conditions, and closing date extensions.
• Work in collaboration with the CTRCS focal point for projects in assigned country portfolio, Task Teams, and Country Management Units, escalating complex issues to Finance Analysts as appropriate.
• Support training to borrowers on e-Disbursement and Client Connection user accounts.
• Support the handling of transaction processing for refunds, adjustments, special commitments, and trust funds under the supervision of Regional Team Leader.

Portfolio Monitoring and Reporting

• Work with the Country Finance Officer (FO) to support portfolio management by monitoring inactive Project Designated Accounts, flagging issues for FO or RTL review, and helping document outstanding balances ahead of loan closure.
• Assist in preparing disbursement reports and contribute to the maintenance of interactive dashboards using Power BI.
• Perform data extraction, cleaning, and basic analysis using platforms such as Power BI, Advanced Excel, and data lakehouse tools (e.g., Dremio) to support decision-making and client reporting.
• Support maintenance of a knowledge repository for frequently asked questions and analytical outputs, ensuring information is current and accessible to the team.

Technology and Innovation

• Support the integration of AI-assisted tools into disbursement workflows, including piloting automation for routine data validation and exception flagging.
• Support adoption of blockchain technology to disbursement transaction integrity and audit trail management, in coordination with CTRST and ITS.
• Contribute to the design, testing, and deployment of application enhancements by preparing Business Requirement Documents (BRDs) and participating in User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
• Identify opportunities to automate recurring tasks using Power BI, Python, or other data tools, and collaborate with technical teams to implement improvements.

Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing

• Support the delivery of training to borrowers on Bank online systems and disbursement data analysis tools.
• Contribute to team knowledge-sharing initiatives by documenting processes, preparing FAQs, and maintaining internal guidance materials.

Selection Criteria

Education

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a relevant accounting or finance discipline.
• Professional accounting qualifications (CA, CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) is a plus but not required.
• Certification in data analytics, systems audit (e.g., CISA), or financial technology is advantageous.

Experience/Others

• Minimum of zero to three years of relevant work experience in finance, accounting, regulatory reporting, or a closely related field.
• Experience in a financial institution, international organization, or accounting firm is preferred; Big Four experience is a plus.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with Power BI (dashboard development, dynamic reporting, or data visualization) is required.
• Practical exposure to AI tools or workflows (e.g., automation, data analytics, machine learning applications in finance) is required.
• Familiarity with blockchain technology in a financial services or transaction management context is a plus.
• Experience with SAP, Python, VBA, or other financial systems is advantageous.
• Candidates with strong technology skills and slightly less traditional finance experience will be considered, provided they demonstrate clear aptitude and foundational knowledge.

Language Skills

• Required: Advanced fluency in English and Portuguese (written, spoken, and ability to conduct meetings professionally).
• Preferred: Advanced fluency in one or more of the following: Arabic, French, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, and/or Spanish. (Proficiency will be tested.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Foundational Finance Knowledge: Understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial management principles. Familiarity with World Bank Operational Policies and Procedures is a plus, but can be learned on the job.
• Technology Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to work with Power BI, Excel (advanced), and at least one scripting or data tool (Python, VBA, SQL, etc.). Willingness to rapidly learn and adopt AI, blockchain, and other emerging financial technologies.
• Analytical Skills: Strong quantitative and analytical mindset with superior attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
• Communication: Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders, both in writing and verbally. Confidence in expressing views and flagging issues appropriately.
• Client Focus: Strong interpersonal, diplomatic, and team-building skills for managing relationships with internal and external clients.
• Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines and shifting conditions, while maintaining accuracy.
• Positive Attitude, strong intellectual curiosity, and a willingness to learn and receive clear direction and feedback.
• Flexibility: Willingness to work in different time zones (specifically US EST) on an as-needed basis, and to travel for missions or short-term assignments, without restrictions.
