
The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Water/Wastewater Maintenance Mechanic I with the Water and Sewer department. The employee performs intermediate skilled mechanical tasks in the maintenance and repair of water treatment and wastewater treatment plants and pumping facilities; does related work as required. This is skilled work in the installation repair, general and preventive maintenance of plant equipment, machinery and facilities at the municipal water or wastewater treatment plants or pumping stations. Work involves responsibilities for participating in the maintenance and repair of equipment, machinery and related appurtenances at the water or wastewater pumping and treatment plants. Maintenance work is performed under the immediate supervision of an employee of a higher classification. Assignments are determined by breakdown of machinery and equipment; however, routine work is performed with little direct supervision. Technical assistance is readily available for help on unusual or difficult problems. The work is reviewed through inspections and by observations of results.
Essential Functions of Position:
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Self-motivated with a general knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in maintenance, repair and installation work on pumping and treatment plants; general knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair work; general working knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles of equipment and machinery used in pumping and treatment of water or wastewater; ability to interpret and work from sketches, plans and diagrams; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees; skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary to perform various mechanical and electrical repair tasks.
Acceptable Experience and Training: Completion of high school or its equivalent and some experience in maintenance of water and sewer equipment or equivalent., or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform in this position. Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check required.
