Marine Society and Sea Cadets (MSSC) is a leading maritime charity in lifelong learning and personal development and is the governing charity of the Sea Cadet Corps (SCC), a civilian voluntary youth organisation engaging some 15,000 young people over 400 Sea Cadet Units, throughout the UK. The SCC offers a wide range of youth opportunities with the same enduring objective – to give young people the best possible head start in life through nautical adventure and fun.

We are currently recruiting enthusiastic watersports instructors at our boating and training centres around the UK. With a significant investment in equipment and facilities over the last few years, the MSSC has repositioned boating at the centre of the Sea Cadet experience and we aim to support all units in providing each Cadet with a boating qualification and 30 hours boating per year.

Requirements

You will be experienced at delivering enjoyable, effective and safe learning for young people in the outdoors. You will hold at least one of the following qualifications: RYA Dinghy Instructor/Senior Instructor, RYA Powerboat Instructor, Paddlesport Instructor; UKCC Level 2 Rowing Coach. Experience and knowledge of routine boat maintenance would be useful but not essential.

The post can be demanding and working hours are as determined by the training programme, which will include some evening and weekend working. However the experience of working with our cadets and other young people is rewarding especially if you are interested in and have benefited from youth work.

About MSSC (Marine Society & Sea Cadets)

We are a vibrant and growing organisation, encompassing two charities under the one MSSC umbrella. On one side we deliver life changing nautical adventure for young people age 10 to 18, through Sea Cadets. Meanwhile the Marine Society, provides personal and professional education opportunities for seafarers worldwide.

Sea Cadets gives young people a new perspective, broadening their horizons and creating possibilities for them. Working across the UK with 14,000 young people, we help them to see the world with confidence, gained through the challenge of nautical adventure and based on the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy .

Our aim is to give young people the best possible head start in life and we are passionate about investing in all young people. We offer a unique mix of activities and experiences, delivered locally, regionally, nationally and offshore, which improves life chances at school, in work and for the community. Through this we create a sense of belonging and identity where young people flourish, gaining confidence, skills for life, values and qualifications, which help them seize a better future

Marine Society aims to inspire and support seafarers across the world to realise their full potential through a wide range of services that are geared towards their personal development, education and learning support needs. Our skilled staff are experienced in supporting and mentoring distance development and learning at sea. Through our work seafarers have the access to gain new skills and qualifications to help them progress in their careers.

MSSC employs approximately 200 employees across the UK with some based out of our Head Office in London and others at our five Training Centres, six Boat Stations and six Area Offices. We also have a fleet of five offshore vessels, which offer voyages at sea for cadets.
