In this role, you will support and lead the planning, design, and delivery of a variety of municipal water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects throughout the Midwest. Project work will include water distribution systems, water transmission mains, sewer collection systems, storm sewer networks, drainage conveyance improvements, flood mitigation projects, and stormwater management initiatives that help communities maintain reliable, resilient, and sustainable utility services. You will collaborate with project managers, technical specialists, and multidisciplinary teams to develop practical and innovative solutions that address client needs while meeting regulatory requirements and project objectives.

This opportunity entails performing and overseeing the preparation and modification of engineering calculations, technical reports, hydraulic and hydrologic analyses, plans, specifications, and construction documents for municipal infrastructure projects. You will contribute to project development from initial planning and alternatives evaluations through final design, permitting, bidding, and construction support. Responsibilities may include utility modeling, drainage studies, stormwater management design, flood risk assessments, permitting coordination, and preparation of supporting technical documentation for agency review and approval.

The Water/Sewer Engineer III applies advanced engineering techniques, procedures, and design criteria to projects of varying size and complexity while exercising increasing independent judgment in evaluating alternatives and developing recommendations. This position works closely with project managers to perform research, planning, design, and delivery activities while leveraging technical knowledge and experience to support successful project execution. Opportunities will include development of water, wastewater, and stormwater system models; pipeline and drainage system design; flood resiliency and watershed evaluations; green infrastructure assessments; utility rehabilitation projects; and capital improvement planning efforts.

In addition to technical design responsibilities, this role may serve as a task lead on project assignments, coordinating work among project team members, tracking deliverables, and helping maintain quality, budget, and schedule objectives. The successful candidate will leverage engineering knowledge, industry tools, and design software to develop conceptual and detailed designs, evaluate alternatives, and deliver high-quality solutions for municipal clients throughout the Midwest. The position also provides opportunities to mentor and review the work of junior staff, share technical expertise, and contribute to the continued growth and development of the water practice.

As a member of the team, you will play an active role in the successful delivery of projects that improve the resiliency, reliability, and performance of critical water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure systems while supporting community sustainability, drainage performance, regulatory compliance, and long-term infrastructure resilience.

What You'll Do:

  • Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
  • Assist in the development of project specifications.
  • Responsible for development of discipline specific engineering project elements/deliverables such as reports, designs, and plans.
  • Aids in the coordination and productivity of project team members.
  • Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineering project team members.
  • Works closely with other disciplines and on multi-discipline projects.
  • Performs quality control reviews of discipline - specific engineering project elements/deliverables.
  • Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work within discipline.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 3 year of relevant experience, or
  • PhD in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience

What You'll Bring:

  • Optimizing work processes by using knowledge of the most effective and efficient ways to get things done with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Independently progresses the majority of designs and tasks required of the discipline.
  • Exhibiting experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and MicroStation and/or AutoCad.
  • Exhibiting a thorough understanding of the application related to engineering, geometric and algebraic principles.
  • Managing time, proactively forecasting, and communicating project development needs.

What We Prefer:

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification
