Compensation:
$90,000 to $120,000 per year plus full benefits

Water & Wastewater Operations Project Manager
to oversee operations at a municipal water and wastewater treatment facility in Hillsboro, Illinois.
This position will lead daily plant operations, supervise operators and maintenance personnel, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage treatment system performance across water and wastewater facilities.
This role is ideal for an experienced treatment plant professional who enjoys leading teams, managing facility performance, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Operations
Oversee daily operations and maintenance of municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities and lift stations
Ensure compliance with all state and federal environmental regulations
Monitor system performance and optimize operational efficiency
Team Leadership
Supervise plant operators and maintenance personnel
Promote a strong safety culture and operational accountability
Provide coaching and development to operations staff
Systems Management
Oversee SCADA system monitoring and operational data review
Manage preventative maintenance planning through CMMS systems
Compliance and Reporting
Prepare operational and regulatory reports
Coordinate with environmental regulators and municipal stakeholders
Asset and Project Management
Plan and coordinate equipment maintenance and capital repairs
Manage contractors and service vendors supporting plant operations
Financial Oversight
Support operating budgets and capital improvement planning
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in water or wastewater treatment operations
Experience supervising plant operators or maintenance teams
Strong understanding of environmental compliance requirements
Experience working with SCADA monitoring systems
Experience with CMMS maintenance tracking systems
Preferred
Illinois Class A Water Operator License or Class 1 Wastewater License or ability to obtain through reciprocity
Experience managing municipal utilities operations
