Job Title: Utility Worker I
Department: Water Treatment Plant
Shift: Wednesday through Sunday, 11:30 am – 8:00 pm
Union: Pittsburgh Joint Collective Bargaining Committee (PJCBC) Operating Engineers Local 95
Rate: $33.055
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
The Utility Worker I will perform manual work of limited complexity and assist in the performance of semi-skilled or skilled tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Participate in various projects or tasks requiring physical labor such as hosing mud in clarifier with a firehose, carrying various items, digging, physically moving, small construction jobs, lifting, setting up safety equipment and other labor related duties.
• May operate a skid steer, forklift, snowplow, crane truck, remote overhead crane, truck of 1 ton or less as part of your regular duties.
• Perform lawn maintenance on the treatment plant and at remote sites with various lawn equipment. Push/riding mowers, trimmers, chain saw, blower, weed eater, hole auger etc.
• Perform chemical handling to transport on plant, transfer into tanks, totes or drums. Also performs chemical clean up or may assist in chemical repairs.
• May be assigned to apply chemicals on treatment plant, remote sites and collect samples.
• Perform facility custodial and janitorial duties indoors on the plant, offices and remote sites.
• Clean outdoors at remote pump stations, equipment, grounds, snow removal and salt walkways.
• Assist trades employees with repair, replace or preventative maintenance on various equipment.
• Use hand tools, power tools, pumps and other equipment as necessary to complete tasks.
• May be asked to assist in traffic control during a project.
• Perform any other duties assigned by management or foreman.

• Ability to understand and follow simple oral instructions
• Ability to use appropriate tools and equipment
• Physical capability to perform physical work outdoors in all weather
• Ability to work with and around chemicals
• Ability to work in confined spaces may be required
• Ability to climb ladder of up to 60ft or down into a pit/vault
• Ability to work in pairs, as a team or individually as assigned.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
The following requirements list the minimum education/training/experience required to qualify for this job. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be accepted.
• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the craft or equivalent training at an accredited trade or technical school, or military training preferred.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must present a current, valid Class C (Class 1) PA Motor Vehicle Operator’s License at the time of application or prior to appointment. A valid driver’s license must be maintained throughout employment.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED / RECEIVED
No direct reports / Receives direct guidance from the Senior Manager, Maintenance.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform physical work outdoors in extreme weather; operate a pickup truck, van and forklift, and related equipment. The employee will work in confined, high spaces, like scaffolding; exhibit full range of motion to complete tasks like climbing, balancing, kneeling, or grasping, with the ability to utilize their senses, such as seeing, hearing, and talking. The employee will perform heavy work including lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds, and work in loud conditions with vibrations, traffic, mechanical, chemical, fire and explosive risks.
CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a loud or moderate noise level within the work environment. Availability to work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays. Subject to remain on duty beyond normal hours or during emergency situations or other extensive periods.
MEDICAL EXAMINATION
Employment may be contingent upon the results of a post-offer (initial employment or promotion) physical examination performed by the Authority's examining physician.
DRUG TESTING
Employment may be contingent upon the results of a post-offer (initial employment or promotion) drug screening. Continued employment may be subject to randomized drug and alcohol testing conducted without advance notice and for reasonable suspicion.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION
Ability to successfully pass a thorough investigation consisting of a criminal history check, verification of prior employment and performance, reference, and credentials checks, and in some cases credit history.
