The Opportunity

Our team is growing and we have an opportunity for a Water Treatment Operator to join us in the Central Hawke's Bay. We are looking for an individual who has water industry experience OR is looking to begin a career in the water industry, in which case Veolia will provide thorough training to set you up for success.


This role is responsible for operating and maintaining water treatment assets, and to uphold Veolia’s commitment to continuous improvement, innovation and customer service while meeting key performance indicators and applying health and safety procedures.


A current valid driver’s licence is a requirement.

What you'll be responsible for

  • Operate and maintain the water treatment assets and plant
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve faults and defects that affect continued operation.
  • Installation and repair of water treatment assets, such as valves, pumps, analysers etc.
  • Undertake quality sampling of water samples in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Act as a point of contact for customer requests for service.
  • Accurately log all reports and jobs, completing the necessary paperwork and filing where required
  • Be present onsite to oversee contractor activities – this involves working reasonable and regular amounts of overtime, in a variety of weather conditions at multiple locations
  • Positively contribute to the district based operations teams by fostering effective working relationships with field, engineering and management staff, client representatives and customers and suppliers.
  • Assist and support other departments in the execution of their duties.
  • Undertake such general duties as required for the effective provision of services to the client and customers

What you'll need to be successful

  • You will hold a NZQA or equivalent professional or trade qualification in Water and/or Wastewater network construction or operations and maintenance.
  • Experience in a similar role, and knowledge of water and wastewater infrastructure, systems, processes and standards
  • Understanding of wastewater treatment operations, maintenance activities and criticality of operations requirements.
  • Understanding of resource consents and their criticality.
  • An understanding of SCADA systems.

Along with planning and organisational ability you are able to work well under pressure and quickly adapt to changing circumstances. You bring with you strong commercial acumen, analytical, problem solving skills as well as good literacy and numeracy skills
