Mō te tūranga | About the role

Join Fulton Hogan as a Water Serviceperson and become a key part of our Water Maintenance team in Whangārei, Northland. Reporting to the WDC Water Maintenance Operations Manager, you’ll support the Water team to deliver work safely, on time, within budget, and to a high standard across the region.

This is a full-time, permanent role based in Whangārei, with 40 to 70 hours per week. The hourly rate is dependent on your experience and qualifications.

Ngā tino kawenga mahi | Key role responsibilities

  • Respond to faults in a timely manner and complete water quality and operational testing.
  • Relocate water service connections and assess whether repair or replacement is needed.
  • Dig trenches to required depths by hand or with trenching tools, then lay and connect pipes using the correct materials.
  • Read and interpret underground service plans, and locate and protect services during excavation works.
  • Monitor plant maintenance and keep accurate, timely, and well-organised records.
  • Follow instructions from your supervisor and support any other duties or projects reasonably requested.
  • Take part in pre-starts, follow safety, quality, and environmental processes, and speak up when something is not right.
  • Look for ways to do the work better and safer, and share ideas with the team.

Kei te kimi mātou i tētahi e whai ana i ēnei pūkenga | We’re looking for someone with

  • At Least 2 years’ experience in a similar role, with local experience advantageous.
  • A Full Class 1 driver’s licence, with Class 2 and WTR preferred.
  • An understanding of the principles and technology of water and wastewater treatment and reticulation.
  • Relevant qualifications in Infrastructure Pipelaying, Infrastructure Works (Pipeline Construction and Maintenance or Pipeline Installation) or willingness to obtain on the job.
  • A safety-first mindset and commitment to the wellbeing of yourself and others.
  • A reliable, practical, and accountable approach, with pride in doing the job well.
  • A positive attitude, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to think ahead.
  • A team-focused approach, with the ability to learn quickly and follow instructions well.
  • The ability to carry out the inherent requirements of the role, including hands-on physical work.
