Position Information
Position Title Water Safety Instructor Location Moscow Division/College Auxiliary Services Department Administrative Operations FLSA Status Non-Exempt Pay Range $15-$17 per hour Full Time/Part Time Part Time Work Schedule Summary
The job requires that the employee teach 1 hour per day plus private swim lessons. This may include morning, evenings and weekends. Employees are responsible for finding their own substitutes for scheduled shifts. Employees are expected to work together as a team.
Position Responsibilities
Position Summary
Primary responsibility is to teach a progression of American Red Cross Swim Lessons consisting of Parent-Tot classes (ages 3 to 28 months), a progression of learn to swim classes for children 2½-5 years of age, and a progression of learn to swim classes for children 6 and older. The Water Safety Instructor ( WSI) is expected to prevent accidents through proper use of equipment, awareness and responsibility. WSIs can plan on working during operational hours through the academic year and summer. Employees are expected to be professional, greet all patrons in a courteous manner, and serve as an information source for aquatic related inquiries. This is a part-time position that also provides the ability to teach private lessons.

Responsibilities
Job Duty Function Responsible for teaching the general public swim lessons by: Job Duties/Responsibilities
Maintaining current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification, Current American Red Cross CPRPR Certification;
Preparing for teaching, identifying the resources necessary for swimming classes and instructing class participants on proper swimming techniques;
Ensuring safety of class participants by teaching and monitoring proper pool safety procedures, visually scanning lesson area;
Determining whether participants are in distress and responding to emergencies when necessary;
Attending all In-Service meetings/trainings.
Percentage Of Time 85% Essential/Marginal Essential Job Duty Function Support the University of Idaho Swim Center by: Job Duties/Responsibilities
Assisting in clearing litter and debris from pool areas;
Returning equipment to storage areas;
Performing maintenance activities on lesson equipment;
Preparing facilities for programs and classes.
Percentage Of Time 10% Essential/Marginal Essential Job Duty Function Contribute to team effort by: Job Duties/Responsibilities
Providing customer service to patrons by addressing and resolving complaints and concerns from the public;
Responding to questions and inquiries;
Answering the telephone and providing information and guidance to inquiries on swimming classes.

Position Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification;
Current American Red Cross CPRPR Certification;
Previous work experience that demonstrates:
Ability to work well with the public;
Ability to deal with staff and public in a professional, team oriented manner.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a lifeguard;
Experience teaching, instructing, and mentoring individuals and groups in activities;
Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
