Who We Are:

The New Orleans JCC is a state-of-the-art fitness center and pool, a New Orleans early childhood education leader, a fun-filled summer day camp, and so much more. It is a place for adults to take an exercise, art, or dance class. A place for children and teens to experience learning through enrichment classes, sports leagues, family activities, and summer camps. The JCC is built on Jewish values but is welcome to everyone.

The mission of the New Orleans Jewish Community Center is to promote and ensure the well-being of our Jewish community and to instill an understanding of Judaism and its heritage by providing a Center where all can enjoy, learn, experience, and share in quality activities in a Jewish environment.

We are seeking Water Safety Instructors to join our team at the New Orleans Jewish Community Center. As a WSI, your primary responsibilities will be to teach students and adults swimming skills and water safety according to the curriculum and standards of the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program.

What You'll Do:

  • Observe all areas of the pool with clear vision.
  • Ability to hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment.
  • Communicate effectively with people in normal, loud, and stressful situations, including projecting one's voice across distance.
  • Support child and/or adult body weight in the water.
  • Previous professional experience with an aquatics program.
  • A genuine love for teaching.
  • Ability to relate to staff and members.
  • Must work well with varying age groups of children.
  • Previous experience with leading a swim lesson program.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in extreme heat conditions for extensive periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Follow all NOJCC policies and procedures as defined in the NOJCC Handbook and as directed by Agency leadership.
  • Basic awareness of Judaism and Jewish cultural norms and traditions.

Qualifications

  • Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification through duration of employment or at least two- three years of teaching experience
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED

Schedule

Weekly, flexible.


$12.36 / per 1/2 session - private lessons

$13.39/ per 1/2 session - semi-private lesson
