Water ResourcesEngineer

ADay in theLife

As an Water Resource Engineer, in our Calgary or Edmonton office, you’ll be responsible for assisting multiple projects where you will have increasing interaction with our multi-disciplinary staff, regulatory agencies and clients. You will be part of a strong team of committed professionals.

The compensation range for this role is $102,000 to $155,000, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location

To thrive in this role,you’llbe comfortable taking ownership of the following responsibilities:

  • Lead engineering analysis and design for urban drainage and surface water management projects, for both private and public clients.

  • Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs of stormwatermanagementponds and wetlands,grey/greeninfrastructure, and erosion and sediment control practices.

  • Conduct specialized hydrologic and hydraulic modeling

  • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of dual drainage systems (e.g., PCSWMM, etc.).

  • Complex stormwater pond analysis (e.g., dam breach modeling, water quality).

  • Detailed wetland water balance studies.

  • Support river engineering and environmental assessment task

  • Prepare and/or review construction cost estimates and tender specifications.

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including hydrogeological, geotechnical,survey,landscape design, transportation,structural, mechanical, electrical,and naturalsciencesdisciplines.

  • Direct and supportfield data collection exercisesas well asdata synthesisanalysis;including site reconnaissance,and topographic surveying.

  • Provide technical support and mentoring to junior team members.

  • Prepare technical reports, technical memoranda, and work plans.

  • Support business development initiatives including preparing proposals and building strong client relationships.

  • Work with regulatory agencies to obtain approvals.

  • Willingto travel within Alberta, BC, and SK to support projects.

YourExpertise andSkills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Water Resources, Environmental, or Civil Engineering. A graduate degree would be considered an asset.

  • Fiveor moreyears ofprogressiveexperience inwater resourcesengineering, with a primaryfocus onurbanstormwatermanagement projects andmunicipal engineering.

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Licensee (engineering) (P.L.Eng) designation (or candidacy) with APEGA isrequired

  • Demonstratedproficiencyinurban stormwatermodeling software (e.g., PCSWMM, EPA SWMM,MIKE+,InfoWorksICM,GeoSTORM) isrequired

  • Experience with variousotherwater resources modeling software (i.e.,HEC-RAS,HEC-HMS, SWAT, HSP-F, EFDC) would be considered an asset.

  • Experiencewithpreparing detailed designs, construction cost estimates, technical specifications,andtender/procurementpackages

  • Experience with Python, R, or VBA for data analysis and model automation would be considered an asset.

  • Experience with design and drafting software such as ArcGIS,Global Mapper, Q-GIS,AutoCAD,and Civil3Dwould be an asset

  • Comprehensive knowledge of currentregulations and legislation.

  • Experience in writing technical reports and proposals and giving presentations to multi-stakeholder groups.

  • A valid Class5driver’s license with no restrictions and a clean driving record.
