Under the supervision of Lead Water Plant Operator, isrequiredtooperateand maintain the Water Treatment Plant. Schedule regular maintenance and address irregular maintenance of the equipment within the plant. Work closely with plumbers and other infrastructure personnel to resolve issues. Participate in goal-setting processes and strategic planning for mission support withLead Water Plant Operator Contribute to a safe working environment by coordinating employee trainings and identification and mitigation of environmental and job hazards. Maintain effective communications between departments. Routinelyutilizeindependent judgment and discretion to solve problems andidentifypotential issues.

Position Responsibilities

• Maintains a safe workplace program and ensures that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.

• Complies withall ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements, goals,policiesand procedures. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legaldocumentation.

• Operates to the best possible standards providing an uninterrupted water supply.

• Monitors reverse osmosis units and ancillary equipmentparameters.  

• Makes adjustments towater plant equipmentensuringoperation guidelines are followed

• Starts,operatesand secures reverse osmosis units and all associated auxiliary equipment essential to water plant operation.

• Monitors Water Plant chemistry making chemicaladjustmentsas necessary.

• Maintains cleanliness of water plant.

• Willingness to carry a radio or pager for after hour’s callout’s

• Responds to unscheduled equipment or process failures.

• Ensures efficient and economical operation of station water production equipment.

• Completes maintenance records;maintainslaboratory and operating logbooks and databases asrequired

• Maintains control of plant tools, manuals, repair parts,assembliesandconsumables. Maintainsinventory accuracy at 98% or better.

• Works closely with and takes direction from the Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) and coordinates in ordering repair and/or spare parts, maintenance parts,assembliesand consumables.

• Advises theLead Water Plant Operatorof the status of water production equipment and systems.

• Works a rotating shift; day,swingor night shift.

• Performs duties in support of division metrics (as provided by supervisor).

• Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly, affected by this position’s work activities.

• Complies withall ASC Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance,requirementsand goals. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate legal documentation.

• Works to achieve ASC goals and contractual commitments.

• Evaluates job hazards and communicates information to staff verbally and in writing through various venues, including weekly and/or daily crew meetings.

• Interprets project taskingutilizingdesign drawings,specificationsand diagrams.

• Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with their superiors and peers as needed to relay information they needin order tobe successful in their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, projects, Quality Standard Procedures, and safety practices.

• May berequiredto work outside on various jobsites in extremecold weatherand environmentally challenging conditions.

• Interacts with other partner companies, the National Science Foundation,militaryand other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person. Is kind, courteous,cooperativeand professionalat all times

• Participate in dormitory chores while deployed to Antarctica.

RequiredEducation, Experience, Certificates and Licenses

• High School diploma orGED

• Colorado Class “D” Certification (or other states’ equivalent) A minimum of six months experience working as an Operator in a Water Treatment Facility will be accepted in lieu of a Class D certificate.

ExpectedSkills and Competencies:

• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to handle multiple tasks at once isrequired  

• Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the maintenance and operation of reverse osmosis water treatment plants isrequired

• Thorough knowledge of the methods, hazards, and safety precautions related to reverse osmosis water treatment plants isrequired

• Ability tomaintaina professional attitude and to work efficiently in a stressful environment isrequired

• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Preferred

• High school graduate or GED

• Previousexperience with remote Polar Logistics operations

• Colorado Class “C” Certification (or other states’ equivalent)

• One year of experience in water production/treatment operations

• Reverse Osmosis experience

Physical and/or Other Requirements

• Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods

• Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica

• Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF

• Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.

• Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold

• Mustparticipatein community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safetyobjectives

• Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States

• No clearance requirement but the contract and/or the site requires US Citizenship to be approved for access. (includes NACI / T1, MRPT, CAC): Must be able to obtain andmaintainfacility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship isrequiredfor facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
