Job Description

Who are we?

When you join Water Corporation, you play an important role for the people of WA. Our services are essential for life - everyday, millions of Western Australians rely on us to deliver and manage water across our state.

If you’re driven to make a meaningful contribution, you’ve come to the right place.

What does a Water Operator do?

Picture a plumber fixing a burst pipe in your house. Now think about a leaking pipe in the street.

Same problem. The only difference is you’re keeping your community’s water supply running.

As a Water Operator, you’re regularly outdoors. You’re digging trenches, inspecting pipelines, and repairing broken water services.

You’re learning a collection of skills that can set you on your way to a technical, management or leadership role.

Your main concern is keeping the water supply network running. That’s finding and fixing faults on pipes and joints.

It’s upgrading the water supply network and it’s understanding the end-to-end water cycle and how water networks help your local community.

You will be playing a big part in maintaining some of the 56,800km of pipelines that stretch across WA.

Not only will you add a nationally recognised qualification to your belt (which we pay for), you’ll also learn a set of extra skills that could have you on your way to a senior technical or leadership role.

Sounds good, but how do you get a foot in the water industry door?... It’s relatively straightforward. All you need is an interest for learning new things and a love of the outdoors.

What else will the role involve

Participating in safe job planning, team meetings and workplace inspections

Ensuring all work is undertaken with safety as the first priority where no injury is considered acceptable, and all activities are undertaken without compromising health and safety.

Operate, maintain, monitor, and repair water and wastewater assets, operational sites, and public facilities as required.

Participate in overtime and call out rosters as required.

Real benefits that matter

  • Real flexibility with options to work 9-day fortnight (RDO)
  • Two well-being days each year to recharge, relax and enjoy life (separate to standard paid sick/personal leave)
  • Access to long service leave pro rata after 3 years of service
  • Take advantage of our co-contribution superannuation scheme. Receive a 12% employer contribution and enjoy an additional 2% employer co-contribution when you elect to salary sacrifice 2%

  • Annual leave loading – an extra 17.5% pay when you use your annual leave

Water Corporation

About Water Corporation

We’re the principal supplier of water, wastewater and drainage services in Western Australia to hundreds of thousands of homes, businesses and farms, as well as providing bulk water to farms for irrigation.

Our services, projects and activities span over 2.6 million square kilometres. We have regional offices in Perth, Bunbury, Albany, Karratha, Geraldton, Northam and Kalgoorlie which allow our employees to provide a high level of professional expertise to customers.

We have over 3,500 employees and manage an asset base of over $37 billion in water supply, wastewater, drainage infrastructure and bulk water for irrigation.

We’re owned by the Western Australian Government and are accountable to our sole shareholder, the Minister for Water, for delivery of our services in a commercial manner. Most of our surplus is returned to the government as a dividend to contribute to the development of the state, with the remainder reinvested in capital works.

Water Corporation was created in January 1996, in a restructure of the water industry in Western Australia. The Water Authority in turn had been created in 1985 through a merger of the former Metropolitan Water Authority, which operated in Perth, the state capital, and the water and wastewater operations of the former WA Public Works Department. We’re the seventh successive agency to deal with these services in Perth, Western Australia.

We're evolving...

Living on the world’s driest continent, the biggest challenge we face is reducing the impact of climate change.

It’s never been more important to work collaboratively with government, industry, and the community, to secure our water future and take care of our home state.

To support these efforts, our vision focuses on our operations having the lowest possible environmental impact, are safe for all, and are delivered at the lowest total cost.
