Water Leak Survey Specialist

Colorado Springs Utilities’ Water Leak Survey & Detection team is looking for a Water Leak Survey Specialist. In this job, you will be responsible for leak surveys, valve exercising, detailed investigations, and troubleshooting for Colorado Springs Utilities’ internal and external customers. You will provide an added level of support to other water leak survey activities, as you will also be responsible for the analytical data as it relates to leak surveys, computerized equipment, and working directly with Laboratory Services for water quality sampling and identification.

Key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Utilizing acoustic, mechanical, and computerized equipment in the completion of distribution system surveys to detect and classify water leaks and pinpoint leak locations
  • Calibrating and maintaining the data logger and acoustic leak noise correlation equipment
  • Responding to customer calls for water leak investigations
  • Performing leak surveys on system extensions to ensure adequate installation under warranty
  • Completing work orders, time entry, and detailed investigative reports
  • Working with other departments to identify and locate potential leaks
  • Providing training to other personnel regarding water survey equipment and techniques
  • Creating detailed survey results and performance presentations to be utilized by managers and claims personnel as official documentation of surveys and investigations
  • Implementing quality assurance procedures
  • Collection and testing of water samples to determine water quality and identification of possible leaks
  • Reviewing, editing, and analyzing pollutant, meteorological, and groundwater field data. Interpreting data, preparing and analyzing technical reports, and maintaining required logs

**This position will require the successful candidate to work overtime and be on call as needed. In addition, this position requires a great deal of walking, lifting, and working in all types of weather conditions.

Who You Are…The ideal candidate will possess previous water leak survey experience, water distribution system operation, maintenance, and repair experience with a focus on leak identification and repair. Solid knowledge of general construction principles, including knowledge of essential hand tools, and a working knowledge of water utility distribution systems design and function is expected. This job requires the use of a jackhammer, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

  • Additional skills, abilities, and certifications/licenses we seek:
    • Must demonstrate technical aptitude and curiosity
    • The ideal candidate would have a State of Colorado Water Distribution System Operator I or higher certification and demonstrate the ability to obtain a Distribution 2 within one year of hire
    • This position requires driving a Colorado Springs Utilities vehicle, so a valid driver’s license is required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exerts 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or 10-20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
  • Positions in this class typically require exposure to all weather conditions.
