Waterfront Supervisor – Ipswich YMCA Summer Programs

Locations: Camp Dory (Essex, MA), Camp Cidermill (Rowley, MA), and the Ipswich YMCA Water Park
Age Requirement: Must be 21 years or older

The Ipswich YMCA is seeking a Waterfront Supervisor to lead and support waterfront operations across our summer camps and YMCA water park. This role plays a critical part in ensuring a safe, well-run, and enjoyable aquatic experience for all campers, members, and staff.

What You’ll Do:

  • Supervise and support a team of lifeguards, modeling best practices at all times

  • Ensure swimmer safety by enforcing YMCA policies and emergency procedures

  • Manage lifeguard schedules to ensure proper staffing and coverage

  • Actively lifeguard as needed and provide on-deck leadership

  • Oversee daily operations of outdoor pools and water park areas

  • Ensure compliance with YMCA standards, Board of Health codes, and safety regulations

  • Document and report incidents promptly and accurately

  • Collaborate with leadership staff to maintain a safe and positive waterfront culture

What You Bring:

  • Previous lifeguarding experience required

  • Strong interest in leadership, supervision, and team development

  • Ability to act independently with sound judgment in emergency situations

  • Excellent communication, organization, and follow-through skills

  • Confidence managing staff and enforcing safety expectations

Qualifications



Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • Current certifications required: Lifeguard, Pro CPR, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration (must maintain and renew all certifications as required).

  • Minimum of 3 years of lifeguarding experience preferred.

  • At least 1 year of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

  • Ability to respond to an emergency within 10 seconds in accordance with YMCA protocols.

  • Must be able to demonstrate all lifeguard skills and continuing care skills on demand

  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to work independently while modeling professionalism and best practices for staff.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Must be prepared to work in inclement weather and perform all lifeguard and continuing care skills regardless of environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, glare, and precipitation.

  • Requires high levels of concentration and attention to detail

  • Ability to quickly recognize and respond to emergency situations

  • Must be able to see, hear, and identify aquatic emergencies

  • Ability to lift, support, and remove individuals from the water as necessary.
