- Instructs patrons on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles
- Assists patrons, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for members and class participants
- Attend staff meetings
- Lead water fitness classes following YMCA Guidelines, Protocols, and Visions of Excellence
- Enforce aquatic rules and policies
- Prepare progressive exercise plans for program participants
- Record and maintain attendance records daily
- Set up facility or equipment, store equipment, and secure facility and equipment upon completion of each class
- Act as a Primary Responder in case of injury, accident, or illness in pool area and provide backup to lifeguards as needed in emergencies and crowd control. Report injuries and complete required forms
- Support and follow YMCA policies and decisions and answer member questions about the YMCA and its programs and fitness related questions
- Attend staff meetings
- Learn and teach the mission of the YMCA which is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all, including the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility
- Plans and implements a program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA
- Coordinates activities which are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures

Qualifications
- At least one year experience leading fitness classes
- General knowledge of exercise training and leadership and exercise principles
- Able to demonstrate all phases of aerobic exercises.
- Mentally alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents.
- Able to vocalize cues and use equipment properly.
- Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED or willing to receive
