Job Description

Job Title: Watchman

Reports To: Grounds Supervisor

The School watchmen is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the school premises, staff, students, and visitors. This role includes monitoring and patrolling the school grounds and buildings, controlling access, and responding to emergencies and incidents of concern.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor and control access to the school premises, ensuring that only authorized personnel and visitors are permitted to enter.

• Conduct regular patrols of the school grounds and buildings to identify any potential security risks or issues.

• Respond promptly and appropriately to any emergency situations, such as accidents, fires or intruders, and take measures to minimize any potential harm.

• Maintain control and manage any disturbances that may occur on the school premises, ensuring the safety of students, staff, and visitors.

• Conduct security checks on visitors, staff, and students entering the school ensuring compliance with school policies and procedures.

• Investigate any suspected cases of theft or vandalism and maintain appropriate records and documentation.

• Keep up-to-date with latest security technologies and procedures.

• Provide regular training to staff and students on safety and security measures.

• Work closely with school management to ensure that school procedures are followed, and propose modifications as required.

• Maintain accurate reports of security incidents and incidents of concern; make recommendations to the school management on measures and practices to improve security.

Competencies:

• Proven experience as a security officer preferably in a school or educational environment.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to maintain a professional manner under pressure.

• Relevant qualification in security, criminal justice, or a related field preferred.

• Knowledge of current security procedures and technologies.

• Ability to handle incidents and emergencies effectively and efficiently.

• Excellent observation and surveillance skills.
