The goal of the Public Works Department is to support and enhance the quality of life for community members by delivering responsive and efficient services to all neighborhoods and to maintain reliable and cost-effective public works facilities and systems in a manner that emphasizes customer satisfaction and good stewardship of natural, fiscal, and staff resources.
The Wastewater/Stormwater Specialist performs duties in alignment with requirements set forth by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and Environmental Protection Agency to protect public health and the environment by ensuring the integrity of the City’s wastewater and stormwater systems. Responsibilities include maintaining system operability, minimizing system overflow occurrences, and protecting the investment made in the infrastructure by being responsive to customer concerns and/or system failures.
Full-Time 40 hours per week
Monday-Friday: 8:00am-4:30pm

12-month probationary period

It is the responsibility of all City of Corvallis employees to:
Knowledge of: and understanding of work-related safety practices, OSHA and environmental rules and regulations, particularly in regards to work in confined space and/or hazardous conditions; engineering concepts and the ability to apply these concepts and construction practices to ensure the integrity of the system; traffic laws and defensive driving.
Skill in: journey level underground pipeline work, plumbing, equipment operation, and construction; effective communication, analytical ability, customer service and interpersonal relations.
Ability to: read blue prints and interpret maps; convey information and respond appropriatelyto concerned or irate customers; make routine decisions regarding assessment of immediate situations, available options, and selection of appropriate methods and procedures, material availability and ordering, equipment utilization and response to customer issues in the field; adjust to changing priorities; get along well with co-workers; use a computer and associated software and programs for tracking, inventory and work assignments; use the following tools and/or equipment: multi-line phone system, personal computer including word processing, spreadsheet, database software, GIS and computerized maintenance management system, copy and fax machines, calculator, hand and power tools, heavy and specialized equipment, automobile or truck and trailers, and other related tools and appropriate personal protective equipment. Pass pre employment background check, drug screen, medical exam, DMV record check.
In Addition: must be able to respond within 60 minutes or less to the Public Works Offices for after-hours calls or emergencies prior to the end of probationary period; the employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of the individual or others in the workplace; have demonstrable commitment to sustainability; and have demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion.
