The Town of Erie is searching for our newest team member, to join us in our Wastewater division as our first Wastewater Utility Maintenance Mechanic! This is a newly approved position for 2026, in order to better support our reclamation facility with facility needs.
Under general supervision, our Maintenance Mechanic participates in the maintenance of utility plants and related infrastructure and assists with the monitoring of a water or wastewater system. At the entry level, work involves closely supervised training and a limited range of duties.

Work Hours: Typical working hours are 6:30AM – 3:00PM
- Please note: The person in this position must be able to work an on-call rotating schedule as assigned and as needed for snow-related/other emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspects, maintains, services and repairs a variety of equipment, such as pumps, motors, drives, electrical supplies, meters associated with water treatment, water supply and water storage facilities.
- Prepares work orders and estimates of time and parts needed.
- Studies equipment having frequent breakdowns to determine cause and attempt to prevent future occurrences.
- Operates hand and power shop tools to perform repairs.
- Maintains all hand and power tools in safe and efficient operating condition.
- Operates a variety of equipment including light vehicles, chain saws, back hoes, snow removal equipment and lawn mowers.
- Performs a variety of related duties as required (e.g., mowing, weed cutting, chemical loading and unloading.
- Regulates use of equipment in the absence of supervisory personnel, if needed.
- Responsible for shop area maintenance, safety and cleanliness.
- Provides general guidance to temporary or seasonal laborers, as assigned.
- Performs related work as required and assigned.
- May assist in the performance of custodial and grounds maintenance duties as sweeping, mopping, painting, carpentry, composting duties and plumbing; lead plant tours for visitors.
- Learns the maintenance and monitoring and some operations of a water/wastewater system.
QualificationsMinimum
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Two years of experience in utility maintenance or plant operations.
- Must have a valid Colorado Driver License and satisfactory driving record.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
