Job Description

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.

The Boring Company is looking for a Wastewater Treatment Plant Technician in Las Vegas, NV. The WWTP Technician is responsible for the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the site's wastewater treatment plant, ensuring continuous, compliant processing of water generated from tunneling and production operations. This is a full-time, hands-on operations role critical to keeping tunneling production running — and treatment capacity must keep pace with water volume from an expanding TBM fleet.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor WWTP equipment, including pumps, filters, and clarifiers, adjusting processes as needed to maintain safe and compliant treatment.
  • Collect and log water and soil samples in accordance with plant procedures and regulatory requirements; perform routine field and lab testing.
  • Perform build-out tunnel inspections a minimum of three (3) times per shift, monitoring build-out tunnel low spots and discharge pumps.
  • Monitor dewatering tanks at other active TBM locations, and coordinate timely transfer or tanking of water into the WWTP for processing.
  • Monitor and control neat water discharge to ensure compliance with all applicable permits and discharge limits. • Perform routine and scheduled preventative maintenance on plant equipment, including mechanical upkeep such as repairing or replacing worn cam locks on hose connections; identify and report mechanical, electrical, or process issues promptly.
  • Maintain accurate operating logs, sampling records, and maintenance documentation for regulatory and internal reporting.
  • Monitor plant conditions continuously during assigned shift; respond to alarms, upsets, or equipment failures to prevent unplanned downtime or discharge violations.
  • Support Storm Water/SWPP-related field activity as directed by the WWTP Lead, including performing remediation items flagged in weekly NDEP and County SWPP inspection reports.
  • Track usage of consumables (treatment chemicals, filters, replacement parts, PPE, etc.) and report current inventory levels and reorder needs to the WWTP Lead.
  • Coordinate shift-to-shift handoff to ensure continuous plant coverage with no gaps in oversight.
  • Follow all site safety procedures, PPE requirements, and Lockout/Tagout/Try-Out (LOTOTO) protocols when performing maintenance or equipment work.
  • Communicate proactively with the WWTP Lead on plant status, water volume trends, and any issues affecting treatment capacity.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3-5 years of prior experience operating or maintaining a wastewater treatment plant, industrial water treatment system, or comparable mechanical/process equipment preferred.
  • State-issued Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification/license a plus.
  • Working knowledge of water/wastewater treatment processes and basic water chemistry.
  • Ability to read and interpret meters, gauges, SCADA displays, and process control instrumentation.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and respond calmly to equipment alarms or process upsets.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage as needed to maintain continuous plant operation.
  • Strong attention to detail and record-keeping accuracy for regulatory compliance.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

  • Work is performed both outdoors and in an industrial plant setting, in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders/stairs, and work around tanks, pumps, and rotating equipment.
  • Exposure to chemicals, odors, and wastewater requires consistent use of required PPE.
  • Must meet all site minimum PPE requirements and pass required safety training prior to independent plant operation.

About The Boring Company

To solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic, roads must go 3D, which means either flying cars or tunnels. Unlike flying cars, tunnels are weatherproof, out of sight and won't fall on your head. A large network of tunnels many levels deep would fix congestion in any city, no matter how large it grew (just keep adding levels). The key to making this work is increasing tunneling speed and dropping costs by a factor of 10 or more – this is the goal of The Boring Company. Fast to dig, low cost tunnels would also make Hyperloop adoption viable and enable rapid transit across densely populated regions, enabling travel from New York to Washington DC in less than 30 minutes.
