Te Tūranga | About the role

Help our community get clear, practical support with Tauranga’s waste services. As our Waste Services Customer Advisor, you’ll be a key contact for waste-related questions, helping people understand what they need to do and where to get help.

In this role, you’ll use your customer service skills, confidence with systems and practical problem-solving to help keep waste services running smoothly. You’ll also share what you’re hearing from customers to support better processes, contractor performance and waste outcomes for Tauranga.

What you’ll be doing

  • Give practical advice on waste services, including relevant rules, processes and policies.
  • Respond to customer enquiries and service requests, including kerbside collection updates and invoicing.
  • Work closely with contractors and internal teams to help make sure services are delivered on time.
  • Keep information, knowledge systems, processes and digital channels accurate and easy to use.
  • Share customer insights to support contract management, performance reviews and service improvements.
  • Identify and implement practical ways to make processes simpler for customers and the team.

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

You’ll enjoy helping people, feel confident using systems and stay organised when priorities change. You might come from waste services, customer service, administration, compliance or another service delivery background.

  • Experience in waste services, customer service, administration or a similar role — or a relevant qualification.
  • Significant experience using complex systems or databases to manage information.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain information clearly to different audiences.
  • Experience managing competing priorities in a busy environment.
  • Confidence building relationships with customers, contractors and internal teams.
  • A proactive approach and a willingness to improve how things are done.
