Job Description

A Waste Management Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant handling, treatment, and disposal of liquid and hazardous waste at one or more Carnival Corporation owned and operated global destination. This role ensures that all activities adhere to regulatory requirements, company policies, and environmental standards to minimize risk to people, property, and the environment. The Waste Management Technician monitors and manages waste streams, properly segregates materials, and ensures that containers and storage areas meet safety and labeling requirements. In addition, the technician conducts inspections, performs routine maintenance on waste management equipment, and documents all waste handling activities accurately. They identify potential hazards, report safety concerns, and participate in training and emergency response procedures to maintain a safe workplace. The role requires a thorough understanding of hazardous materials, proper disposal techniques, and environmental compliance regulations, as well as strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a commitment to sustainability and safety practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Waste Collection, Handling, and Processing

  • Assist with waste collection and processing on site.
  • Process hazardous materials (including hazardous wastes), including testing, categorization, bulking, lab packing, and preparing hazardous waste shipping documents.
  • Planning, preparation, and setup of waste-related activities and events (if applicable).

Equipment Operation and Maintenance

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and coordinate repair of a wide variety of electrical, mechanical, and heavy equipment.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment and safety wear on site.

Compliance, Safety, and Reporting

  • Follow all compliance and safety regulations associated with proper waste disposal.
  • Follow correct reporting procedures if faced with issues.
  • Write reports of inspections, investigations, or incidents and document activities.
  • Provide first aid support if required.

Training, Recommendations, and Other Duties

  • Provide training and make recommendations on changes to procedures.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or designee.

SKILLS SPECIFICS:

  • Strong Microsoft office suite skills.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have excellent communication and planning skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and think critically.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED; equivalent experience is required; additional education in Hospitality or a related field is a plus. Technical/waste certification required
  • Minimum 2 years experience working in a technical maintenance environment in a Hotel or related industry
  • Previous work experience preferred.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fluency in conversational English,
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be physically fit.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment as needed.
  • May need to stand for long periods of time.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to multi-task and think critically
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Strong planning and coordination skills, especially in handling multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • May be requested to work a shift schedule while at any of the destinations.
