Responsible for performing all duties and responsibilities associated with collection, destruction and removal of all hazardous, non-hazardous, Antineoplastic, regulated medical, laboratory and universal waste generated within the facility.
Hourly Rate: $25.41/hour
Schedule: Friday-Sunday; 6AM-6:30PM
Final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to experience level, education, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Collects all waste from the facility, ensures that they are in the proper container and labeled and segregated according to waste classification.
Disposes of waste according to classification: i.e. hazardous, non-hazardous, liquid, solid, semi-solid, vials, etc.
Determines if the waste can enter the waste stream and prepares the waste to be removed to the pharmaceutical waste destroyer for destruction.
Prepares all waste drums, boxes and containers with the proper classification and identification labels required by the Department of Environmental Conservation, Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Transportation.
Performs daily inspection of the hazardous waste room to ensure that sufficient amounts of drums, boxes and containers are available for all manufacturing and laboratory areas. Cleans area of all debris and maintains order.
Operates the pharmaceutical waste destroyer to ensure that discarded vials are destroyed in a manner that renders them unusable. Ensures that only liquids that are on the approved list enter the waste stream.
Ensures that the pharmaceutical waste destroyer is operational by performing daily inspections and weekly maintenance. Repairs the machine to ensure that it is operating at peak efficiency by changing hammers, rollers, pins, belts, bearings, and conveyers.
Coordinates with Warehouse Management and ensures that products that have been released for destruction are destroyed per the applicable Material Review Destruction Report (MRDR).
Coordinates the removal of waste with outside agencies and ensures that it meets all federal, state and local regulations.
Attends certification classes through various sources for proper waste handling and to prepare and sign hazardous waste manifests, as required by the Department of Transportation, Department of Environmental Conservation and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Conducts regular inspections of waste generation areas, including within the hygiene zones.
Perform routine wastewater monitoring duties including visual inspections, pH and DO meter calibration, SBR panel review, and collection of outfall and non-contact discharge samples in accordance with established procedures.
Follows all OSHA, cGMP and company policies when performing all tasks.
Overtime during the week and weekends may be required.
All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
High school diploma/GED or higher.
Obtain certification in Hazardous Waste Operation and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) and RCRA/New York Hazardous Waste Management within 6 months. Must attend yearly refresher training for certification.
Obtain Hazmat Ground Shipper certification within 6 months.
At least 1 year of related experience in similar waste removal role or equivalent.
The ability to operate a forklift and power walker is required.
Must demonstrate good mechanical aptitude.
The ability to perform a wide variety of tasks fast and efficiently.
Must posses good communication skills
The ability to interact with all department and all levels.
