Job Description

Position Title: A Shipper + CDL A

Major Purpose: The A Shipper + CDL is responsible for efficiently managing the shipping and receiving of finished goods, ensuring all items are accounted for and verified. This role requires maintaining quality standards, meeting production needs, and upholding safety and cleanliness in the Shipping Department. A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and CDL driving experience are required for this position.

Pay Rate: $27.90 per hour + Growth Opportunities

Qualifications: To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • CDL A and Driving Experience: Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with proven CDL A driving experience.

  • Mathematical Skills: Proficient in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication with legible, professional documentation.

  • Reasoning Ability: Capable of interpreting and executing detailed written, oral, or diagrammed instructions with common sense.

  • Attendance: Strong attendance record with no written warnings in the past year.

  • Shipping Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience as a B Shipper with a proven track record of accuracy and timeliness in shipping documentation (e.g., Bills of Lading, Picklists).

  • Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of part numbers, packaging procedures, and 5S practices for organized and efficient operations.

  • Performance Metrics: Low shipment error rate (1–2 trucks monthly) and minimal material loss due to forklift activity (less than two skids annually).

  • Physical Requirements: Regularly lift/move up to 25 lbs., frequently lift/move up to 50 lbs., and stand/walk for long periods on cement surfaces.

  • Flexibility: Willing and able to work flexible shifts as needed to meet production demands.

Responsibilities:

Shipping and Receiving:

  • Ensure safe, damage-free shipping and receiving of all loads.

  • Maintain and monitor the shipping lot for cleanliness, damage, and proper storage (e.g., rewrap leaning stacks).

  • Perform regular 5S housekeeping and recycling tasks to maintain a safe and efficient environment.

Documentation and Communication:

  • Prepare and review shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading and Picklists.

  • Notify management promptly of any issues or abnormalities.

  • Communicate effectively with the Shipping Group Lead, Supervisor, and Plant Superintendent.

Operational Excellence:

  • Train and oversee new shippers to ensure compliance with processes and safety standards.

  • Inspect process areas, identify problems, and take corrective action.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot shipping tools and equipment, escalating issues to the Superintendent when necessary.

  • Ensure adequate supplies of W.I.P. (Work in Progress) items for daily production runs.

Quality Control:

  • Report quality issues to the Supervisor and Plant Superintendent and implement corrective measures.

  • Prevent nonconforming products by adhering to quality control processes.

Cost Control:

  • Operate efficiently to minimize waste and maximize resources.

  • Actively suggest cost-saving measures.

Work Environment:

  • Requires the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas.

  • Regular exposure to physical demands such as standing, walking, and lifting.

Reporting Relationship: The A Shipper reports directly to the Shipping Supervisor and the Plant Superintendent.
