STATUS: Temporary/Full Time/Non-Exempt

This is a temporary position, starting in June 2026 and working approximately three months, with an undetermined end date.

General Statement:

The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church and the ultimate goal of all programs is the spiritual regeneration of all people.

Responsible for maintaining a smoothly operating Food Bank Warehouse that provides for the needs of the service area. The Warehouse Manager must coordinate all logistics related to this purpose including coordinating food drives with various organizations, community and church groups and being aware of available stick and making the efforts necessary to increase donations as needed. The Warehouse Manager must maintain accurate records of all donations and create and submit a weekly and monthly report in a timely manner. This position requires a person of great integrity and strong commitment to further the mission of The Salvation Army.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Warehouse cleanliness at highest standards of operation
  • Be available to assist with all responsibilities as assigned to Volunteers (i.e., during peak times assist Volunteers with walking customers through the Warehouse)
  • Assist the Corps Officers with other special events as requested, such as Christmas Kettles, Christmas Angel Tree, Adopt-a-Family and other community activities/events.

Food Bank Truck:

  • Oversee and maintain the truck drivers’ work schedule for pick-ups and deliveries
  • Ensure the timely pick-ups of all donations, including Food Lifeline and Northwest Harvest
  • Ability to operate Food Bank truck as needed
  • Assure the cleanliness of the truck
  • Report any need for truck maintenance to the Director of Social Services

Food Bank Warehouse:

  • Maintain morning log of freezer and cooler temperatures
  • Ensure that all necessary food items have been brought forward and that all carts and coolers are stocked for the morning Volunteers.
  • Ensure that the Food Bank is operated in compliance with and consistent with The Salvation Army standards of operation, the Mission Statement and Food Lifeline standards
  • Ensure that all food is maintained at proper temperatures, including those foods which must be cooled or frozen
  • Receive, sort, store and log all donations from groups and individuals
  • Ensure the Warehouse is function in a manner that is Client-friendly (this may include the posting of procedures, training Volunteers to assist Clients and also providing personal assistance to Clients)
  • Report any need for repairs/maintenance to the Director of Social Service and ensure that necessary items are performed

Reports:

  • Accurately weigh and record on the Gifts in Kind Log all incoming foods during your shift
  • Tally all commodities on the first day of each month before the Food Bank opens and complete the TEFAP report.
  • At the end of each day, tally the dollar amounts represented by all Gifts in Kind
  • At the end of the day, transfer all appropriate information form the Gifts in Kind Log to the Grocery Rescue Donation Reports
  • At the end of each month, submit these reports to the Director of Social Services
  • Report large Gifts in Kind donation to the Office Manger with contact information each week, so a letter of thanks may be sent in a timely manner

Time Management:

  • Ensure that as an Employee all time is spent furthering the above job responsibilities or the work of the Food Bank in general
  • Tasks of a personal nature should be performed only during breaks, lunch or time not “on-the-clock”
  • Direct Volunteers in daily operation of Warehouse and Client assistance
  • Maintain personal timecard, avoiding manual entries and sign and submit each Friday

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Highschool Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in one or more of the following fields: Logistics, Warehouse Management or Foodbank Operations

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Possess required state and city certificates or other credentials needed for food handling
  • Knowledgeable of the heath and safety standards related to food service
  • Willing and able to supervise Volunteers in a kind and supportive way, while enforcing TSA policy as well as state and city regulations
  • Ability to work with all kinds of people in a productive and nondiscriminatory manner
  • In accordance with the TSA Substance Abuse Policy and Drug Free Workplace policy-non-use of any substance, including alcohol or any drug which might affect the health, safety or well-being of a Client, the public or other workers and self while on the job or on Salvation Army premises.
  • Strong use of the English language in verbal and written communication
  • Ability to follow written policies and procedures
  • The ability to present oneself in a professional manner and maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in matters relating to Client Services
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills are necessary
  • Dependable work record in reporting to work on time and completing assigned responsibilities
  • Current and valid Washington State Driver’s License and the ability to pass a TSA Motor Vehicle Record check and in-house driving test
  • Must complete and adhere to Protecting the Mission requirements and guidelines
  • Model and maintain excellent time management skills and schedule adherence

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, reach and twist on intermittent or continuous basis
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as pallet jack and hand truck
  • Ability to climb ladders
  • Ability to tolerate both inside and outside environmental conditions as well as extreme cold when stocking walk in freezer
  • Ability to operate telephone and desktop computer
  • Ability to understand written and verbal information
  • Ability and clearance to operate motor vehicle

Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance offered starting at $2.31 bi-weekly cost. Employees are covered by an employer paid life insurance policy. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at 5 years eligible service time, employee funded voluntary 403(b) options

Parental Leave: Benefit will be one week (5 business days) of paid leave at the employee’s normal rate of pay for births, adoptions and foster placements.

Sick Leave: 12 days annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after 3 months’ service time.

Paid Vacation: 2 weeks annually accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions. 4 weeks annually accruing from day one, for exempt positions. Accrued vacation eligible for use after 6 months’ service time.

Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
