Warehouse Janitor

Overview

A Warehouse Janitor in a food distribution facility is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and food‑safe environment that supports compliance with FDA, USDA, and company hygiene standards. This role directly contributes to product integrity, workplace safety, and smooth warehouse operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize warehouse floors, aisles, loading docks, and staging areas
  • Maintain cleanliness in temperature‑controlled zones (coolers, freezers, dry storage)
  • Perform routine sanitation of high‑touch surfaces, equipment exteriors, and workstations
  • Empty trash, food waste, and recycling following proper disposal procedures
  • Follow strict food‑safety protocols, including proper chemical handling and sanitation logs
  • Support pest‑prevention efforts by keeping areas free of debris, spills, and food residue
  • Operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers
  • Assist with deep‑cleaning tasks during scheduled sanitation cycles
  • Report spills, contamination risks, or facility hazards immediately to supervisors
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and ensure proper storage of chemicals

Skills & Qualifications

  • Understanding of food‑safety standards (HACCP, GMPs) is highly preferred
  • Ability to work in cold environments (coolers/freezers) when needed
  • Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for long periods
  • Familiarity with industrial cleaning equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to sanitation
  • Ability to follow written cleaning schedules and complete sanitation logs
  • Prior janitorial or food‑industry experience is a plus

Work Environment

  • Mix of dry, refrigerated, and frozen warehouse areas
  • Exposure to food products, packaging materials, and forklifts
  • Fast‑paced environment with strict cleanliness and safety expectations
