Job Objective

Transport cargo trucks or freight units from maneuvering yards in Mexico (such as Mexicali or Tijuana) through border customs to assigned warehouses in the United States (such as Calexico or San Diego), ensuring compliance with customs and safety regulations of both countries within the same day.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Border Crossing: Drive the freight unit through international fiscal precincts (Mexico and the U.S.).
• Documentation Review: Verify that the export permit (pedimento), cargo manifest (e-Manifest), and customs paperwork match the actual merchandise.
• Vehicle Inspection: Conduct pre-trip inspections in accordance with DOT (U.S. Department of Transportation) regulations.
• Security Protocols: Strictly comply with guidelines from anti-smuggling and anti-terrorism certifications (C-TPAT, FAST, and OEA).
• Monitoring and Reporting: Maintain constant communication with the Traffic and Operations departments, as well as Customs Brokers, regarding any secondary inspections or delays.
• Yard Maneuvers: Hitch and unhitch trailer beds or unload merchandise at assigned yards on the U.S. side for an immediate return to Mexico.
• Other position-related activities.

Profile Requirements

• Legal Documentation: Valid U.S. Visa (B1/B2, Border Crossing Card/Láser, or work visa), valid Mexican Federal Driver's License Type B, C, or E (SCT), and valid Mexican passport.
• Certifications: FAST Card holder (preferred or mandatory depending on the company).
• Experience: Minimum of 2 to 3 years operating cargo vans, tractor-trailers, or heavy-duty trucks, with at least 1 year of experience in border crossings.
• Health: Mandatory cleared preventative transportation medical exam.

Skills and Competencies

• Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with DOT rules (hours of service, logbooks) and U.S. Customs (CBP) regulations.
• Responsibility and Integrity: Strict care of cargo to prevent merchandise contamination with illegal substances.
• Results-Oriented: Ability to manage pressure regarding wait times at customs lines.
• Basic English: Ability to understand simple instructions from U.S. customs officers.
