Cockrill Bend-SalvageThe Warehouse Associate - Recycling plays a critical role in sorting, organizing, and preparing recyclable materials for vendor pick-up while ensuring a clean, safe, and efficient workspace. This position is responsible for handling various recyclable and salvageable materials, including hazardous waste, using equipment such as pallet jacks, balers, and heavy tipping machinery. Adherence to safety protocols and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential to this role.

Essential Functions

Sorting & Organizing Materials:

  • Sort, separate, and categorize recyclable materials, including hazardous waste, according to company and vendor requirements.
  • Ensure proper disposal and placement of materials into designated recycling or waste containers.

Material Handling & Equipment Operation:

  • Safely operate a cardboard baler, forklift and pallet jack for material handling.
  • Load and unload trailers as required.
  • Label, wrap, and prepare materials for shipment.
  • Weigh recycling loads and maintain accurate documentation for vendor pick-ups.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Follow all workplace safety policies and procedures, including the correct use of PPE.
  • Adhere to proper lifting, pushing, and pulling techniques to prevent injuries.
  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free work environment.
  • Comply with regulations related to hazardous waste handling and disposal.

Other Duties:

  • Assist with general warehouse tasks as assigned by the Operations Manager.

MInimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • No formal education or experience requirements; on-the-job training provided.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to recognize and sort different recyclable materials.
  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of safe lifting, pushing, and pulling techniques.
  • Willingness to learn how to operate equipment such as balers, forklifts and pallet jacks.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry loads weighing over 50 lbs
  • Frequent standing, bending, pushing, and pulling.
  • Work is performed in a warehouse setting, which may involve exposure to outdoor temperatures, dust, and noise
  • Must comply with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, including gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing as needed.
