Job Duties

For more than three decades, the Virginia Lottery has worked to build a strong reputation, one synonymous with providing fun, entertaining experiences and doing so responsibly and with integrity. Proceeds from traditional Lottery games support K – 12 public education in Virginia. Taxes generated by sports wagering and casino gaming, which are regulated by the Lottery, benefit other priorities of the Commonwealth.

The Virginia Lottery, an independent state agency, is currently seeking a Warehouse Associate to join its Hampton Customer Service Center.

The Warehouse Associate will be responsible for a variety of duties involving tickets; receiving, issuing, verifying, sorting, storing, and crediting retailers for returns; delivering lottery tickets and supplies to field sales staff; lending ongoing support to the Hampton Customer Service Associates by providing customer service at the front service counter and assisting with incoming phone calls; maintaining adequate instant ticket inventory and accurate records of returned tickets; conducting inventories on field sales’ trunk stock; and maintaining records of all shipments, receiving Point of Sale (POS) materials and distributing them to field sales team.

Key Responsibilities Include:
Warehouse Management/Inventory Management/Sales Support:
• Managing the inventory through daily inventories and inputting data into the lottery system.
• Maintaining proper level of inventory of all warehouse supplies to ensure the efficient operation of the Hampton CSC and warehouse.
• Responding (after normal working hours) to breaches of the Hampton CSC and warehouse security at the request of local law enforcement officers.
• Resolving day-to-day issues within the warehouse and in field sales support, directing difficult questions to the appropriate manager.
• Ordering, receiving, verifying, shipping, and distributing POS materials, supplies, UPS shipments and all other deliveries to the appropriate locations.
• Maintaining equipment in operable working order and notifying the Customer Service Manager of any issues in a timely manner.
• Maintaining warehouse organized and safe, meeting OSHA safety requirements.
• Providing assistance to other Customer Service Centers (CSC) as directed by the Sr. Customer Service Center Manager.

Hampton CSC Operations Back-Up:
• Assisting with winner claims, answering phones, creating winner checks, handling retailer questions.
• Performing back up duties for Customer Service Associate. Inspecting tickets presented by customers for validation for forgery or tampering. Alerting security officer if breach is detected. Greeting customers, accepting winning ticket(s), processing claims for payment, entering data using the ES system, and issuing payment to customers.

Additional Responsibilities Include:
Other duties may be required based on supplementary assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

The person selected for this position will have:
• Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to make decisions independently.
• Effective communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and listening skills.
• Experience in warehouse operations and inventory.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented office and have excellent attention to details.
• Experience operating light equipment, a pallet jack and forklift.
• Ability to lift at least fifty (50) pounds.
• Experience working with internal and external customers face-to-face or via phone.
• Ability to perform computer duties such as, but not limited to, MS Excel and Word.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive material.
• Excellent attention to detail, research, problem-solving, and time management practices.

An equivalent combination of training and professional work experience may be substituted for minimum qualifications.

Additional Considerations

Preferred qualifications include:
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in warehouse, distribution, storeroom, and/or inventory functions.
• Current Forklift certification, or willingness to pursue certification.
• Lottery experience.
