Warehouse Assistant

In this fixed-location role, you will support warehouse receiving, inventory flow, and fire extinguisher service with no travel required.

Role Overview

This position combines hands-on warehouse support with fire protection service work. You will help keep receiving and staging areas organized, separate product based on production needs, support pre-production inventory, and perform required service and maintenance on fire extinguishers. Success in this role depends on safety, accuracy, teamwork, and consistent follow-through.

Key Responsibilities

• Keep the receiving area clear, safe, and organized.
• Use a cage inbounding sheet on every cage or shipment.
• Separate product by production needs and ensure clear placement on the receiving side.
• Keep the staging area for the chem room stocked and clearly labeled.
• Separate and communicate condemned extinguishers in receiving, and provide counts and tracking numbers to shipping.
• Keep bad product from going to production.
• Work with the supervisor on pre-production inventory and maintain a record of what is on hand.
• Utilize center racking for pre-production storage of items used less often.
• Perform forklift maintenance, daily inspections, and charging when necessary.
• Work as a team with shipping to produce excellent results.
• Perform required service and maintenance on fire extinguishers, including recharging, testing, and six- and twelve-year maintenance work.
• Accurately complete reports, paperwork, inspection tags, and other required service records.
• Perform routine and preventative maintenance on extinguisher shop test equipment.
• Maintain the organization, operation, and cleanliness of the work area.
• Complete required employment paperwork in a timely and professional manner, including timecards.
• Participate in periodic Johnson Controls business meetings and contribute to the growth and sustainability of the business.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

How You Will Do It

• Keep the work area safe, orderly, and ready for daily execution. Use clear labeling, disciplined staging, and consistent housekeeping to support smooth warehouse and service operations.
• Own your work with accountability, safety, and integrity. Handle incoming product, condemned extinguishers, and service documentation carefully so the right materials and records move forward.
• Stay close to the work and remove obstacles quickly. Coordinate closely with your supervisor and the shipping team, communicate counts and tracking numbers promptly, and support clean handoffs.
• Improve every day through candor and problem-solving. Keep records accurate, watch for opportunities to improve flow and organization, and raise issues early when something needs attention.
• Win as one team. Collaborate with shipping, production, and Johnson Controls colleagues to deliver reliable results and strong customer support.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to operate hand tools and lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to perform hands-on work in a warehouse and service environment.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to pass the required licensing test; on-the-job training is provided.
• Ability to pass a drug test, background check, and BMV check.
• Must have a clean driving record.
• Valid driver's license.

Nice to Have

• Previous warehouse, logistics, inventory, or fire protection service experience.
• Experience working with receiving records, inspection tags, or maintenance paperwork.
• Forklift operation experience and familiarity with warehouse organization practices.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $18-$24 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
