The Department

The Nursing Workforce provides support across Alfred Health through Bank and Pool cover. Our team comprises people who are able to work across a variety of specialities and adapt to new ward environments every day. Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research, and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne and a major provider of specialist state-wide services to the people of Victoria.

The Position Summary

Ward Clerks will be responsible for the coordination of communication, patient services and clerical functions as directed by the Nurse Manager of the designated ward or department.

  • Word Processing (as applicable)
  • Facilitate communication within the ward
  • Arrange and coordinate patient services
  • Clerical Duties
  • Promote and maintain good customer relations with patients, visitors, and other hospital personnel
  • If necessary to be away from the desk area, ensure the registered nurse in charge of the ward is notified
  • Be aware of your role during emergency procedures
  • Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times
  • Key role in ensuring communication reaches patient’s

Skills and Experience Required

  • Good communication
  • Clerical skills
  • Typing and computer skills
  • Previous hospital administrative experience is desirable

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.
