Job Location: Ohio County Hospital - Hartford, KY 42347
Position Type: Full Time
Job Shift: NightsEffectively communicate with interdisciplinary team and others.
- Identifies self by name and nursing unit when answering phone.
- Answers call lights immediately and addresses patient in a caring tone.
- Channels messages and/or patient request to the appropriate person in a timely manner.
- Listens attentively and requests clarification and/or feedback as indicated.
- Gives clear and concise messages.
- Immediately gives attention to patient or visitor who presents to the nursing station.
- Assures notification of other departments when a patient is discharged or transferred (may be via computer system).
- Assures physician/provider has been notified upon admission.
Perform clerical responsibilities as required
- Keeps charts in proper order – always checks for medical orders before being filed. Reports filed in appropriate chart.
- Transcribes medical orders according to policy and procedure, with verification by nurse.
- Assists medical and nursing staff with chart location, clerical duties.
- Documentation in medical record is accurate and timely.
- Assures necessary “forms” and supplies are available in medical record and on unit. Orders and stocks necessary equipment and supplies.
- Maintains supply of “new charts” ready for new admits.
- Completes the 24 hour census report.
- Errands as assigned by the Charge Nurse/House Supervisor.
- Assists with phone calls for staffing needs.
Maintains safe and therapeutic environment for patient care and co workers
- Takes necessary safety precautions when transporting patients of all ages.
- Reports any faulty equipment, infection or safety hazards to the Charge Nurse/House Supervisor.
- All occurrences are reported immediately to the nurse in charge and event reports are completed with assistance from the charge nurse/house supervisor before the shift ends.
- Knows and responds accurately to all emergency code situations.
- Remains calm and follows directions.
- Knows and uses proper body mechanics.
- Reports to assigned area during disaster drill or disaster and carries out assigned functions in a timely manner.
- Keeps nursing station neat and clean and assists other nursing personnel in reducing clutter in hallways.
- Adheres to blood and body fluid precautions. Knows where to locate personal protective equipment and uses appropriately. Aware and uses appropriately segregated waste
- Accountable for ensuring patient safety during the course of performing his/her duties.

- Code of Ethics and Standards of Nursing Practice are continually met.
- Performs all assignments accurately and timely, and according to nursing policy and procedure.
- Continuously aware of cost containment by prudent use of supplies and equipment.
- Recognizes and supports the Patients Bill of Rights maintains confidentiality in all hospital matters. Adheres to legal compliance policies.

- Employee Health, Infection Control, Exposure Control Plan policies followed.

- Attends in-services that pertain to assigned area of practice. These in-services shall include fire, safety, mass disaster, infection control, (Exposure Control Plan, HIV, TB, and other infectious diseases update). Must complete annual mandatory in-services.

Performs all procedures in accordance to established policies and procedures of OCH and adheres to legal compliance policies and other regulatory issues

QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent; ability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively; knowledge of basic medical terminology; basic keyboarding and computer skills; customer service oriented; communication skills a must; ability to stay focused and calm under stressful conditions; organizational skills a must; attention to details. BLS Provider or equivalent knowledge or obtains within six months of employment.
