The Clinic Laboratory Technician performs a wide variety of laboratory analyses by basic waived testing methodologies according to established standards and procedures in order to obtain valid data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Utilizes and maintains high technology, scientific equipment and recognizes and resolves testing problems and invalid or inconsistent test data. Collects laboratory specimens by venipuncture and capillary puncture for subsequent testing and collects throat culture specimens. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
WORKING CONDITIONS, HAZARDS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Potential exposure to laboratory chemicals that may be toxic, caustic, or flammable. Moderate physical exertion with moderate to marked stress levels. Moderate noise level due to centrifuges and other instrumentation. Light to moderate moving of supplies. Numerous phone calls and interruptions. This job involves exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissues. Must be able to move or position 25 lbs. independently. A flexible work schedule is required.
CONTACTS WITH OTHERS:
Contact with patients, physicians, visitors, family members, and Associates. Also has contact with healthcare providers and with students in clinical rotations.
EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
Automated and non-automated laboratory instrumentation and tools.
Qualifications
One to three (1-3) years laboratory experience required with proven competency skills. Computer skills, medical terminology required.
