A Waiter is responsible for delivering an flawless, highly sophisticated culinary experience to guests. In a high-end restaurant, service is treated as an art form; it requires deep culinary knowledge, flawless etiquette, and the ability to anticipate guest needs before they arise.

Key Responsibilities


Menu and Beverage Expertise:
Maintaining an exhaustive knowledge of the menu, including ingredients, preparation techniques, culinary origins, potential allergens, and wine or cocktail pairings.


Synchronized & Formal Service:
Executing precise service techniques, such as serving from the left, clearing from the right, pouring water and wine flawlessly, and carrying out synchronized table drops where all guests are served at the exact same moment.


Guest Experience Management:
Reading the table to tailor the service style to the guests' vibe (e.g., a celebratory anniversary vs. a quiet business dinner). Anticipating needs quietly—such as replacing dropped napkins instantly or crumbing the table between courses.


Upselling & Guidance:
Guiding guests through the menu, explaining chef tasting menus, and confidently recommending premium pairings, aperitifs, and digestifs to enhance the check size and the guest experience.


Liaison Between Front & Back of House:
Communicating seamlessly with the kitchen (expo) regarding special dietary restrictions, pacing requests, and precise order modifications.


Polishing & Setup:
Ensuring every piece of silverware, crystal glassware, and porcelain plate is completely spotless and perfectly aligned according to strict fine-dining geometry.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


Experience:
Proven experience waiting tables in a upscale, fine-dining, or Michelin-starred environment.


Knowledge:
Strong understanding of fine wines, spirits, premium ingredients (e.g., truffles, caviar, specific beef cuts), and classic culinary terminology.


Soft Skills:
Exceptional poise, refined communication skills, emotional intelligence to read guest cues, and the ability to remain completely calm under pressure.


Grooming & Presentation:
Immaculate personal presentation and adherence to strict uniform and grooming standards.


Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand and walk gracefully for long shifts while carrying heavy silver trays, balanced plates, or large wine buckets.
