The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine is seeking veterinarians with experience in basic small animal surgical procedures to participate in third-year surgical training laboratory-based sessions to oversee live-animal surgeries focused on neuter and ovariohysterectomies. This position pays hourly wages as earned on a bi-weekly schedule.
Job Responsibilities:
90% Provide teaching assistance in live-dog reproductive procedures including ovariohysterectomy & castration for 3rd year veterinary students, under the general oversight of the VMED 5011 course coordinator.
5% Assist with basic Surgical Training Center support as needed on days where surgical training is occurring.
5% Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
DVM or equivalent degree, and three years of veterinary experience including basic surgery in small animals (dogs and cats).
Preferred Qualifications:
DVM or equivalent and 2 years of experience teaching veterinary students.
Proficient Job Competencies: Communication skills, professionalism, interpersonal skills, and teamwork.
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Required to be capable of lifting more than 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, able to reach above and below the shoulder, vision (near sight), vision (far sight), kneel or sit on the floor, push/pulling, grasping, climbing, crawling bending, squatting, and/or twisting.
