Job Description

The Department of Anesthesiology has faculty positions available, with a need for individuals with the knowledge gained through the minimum of a Medical degree (M.D.), or equivalent, to perform the duties of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. This position is responsible for acting as attending anesthesiologist with direct responsibility for patient care. The duties include:

· Administers anesthesia through spinal, intravenous, caudal or local methods.

· Determining when patients are stabilized enough to be moved after an operation.

· Supervising anesthesia providers (residents, fellows, CRNAs, SRNAs)

· Following procedure, anesthesiologist continues to monitor patient’s vitals and may be involved in management of pain.

Faculty at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level are also expected to participate in the education of anesthesia trainees at all levels (interns, residents, fellows).

The position of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in the Anesthesiology Department is a specialty occupation and should be deemed professional in nature. The required qualifications are a minimum of a Medical degree (M.D.) or equivalent and a license to practice medicine from the State of Tennessee (these are the normal requirements for this position within Vanderbilt University Medical Center). Please note that these qualifications are common in parallel positions among similar organizations.
